140/80 rear tire size - benefits?

My stock tyre is still in a stack as new. Dunlop MX51 110/90 for me. Have considered 110/100 for a bit more sidewall flex and perhaps plusher setup, however traction is good, corners well, does everything well, and most importantly predictably. Usually run around 10psi on heavy duty tubes.

That's a buzz kill :(

Lol, I know. I would rather save someone the hassle and expense. But seeing as your in the PNW and your soil is very different then down here. It may work well for you, just get a long bar to mount it with, plenty of libations, loud aggressive music and hide the swear jar for an hour!

Lol! I have been mounting my own tires for years but I believe you. Jeff Slavens who as you may know is a real hard ass and he loves this tire. He did say that the original version sucked . When I lived in Phoenix and SoCal I would run the Maxis IT.

Stay far away from that tire. My buddy is riding on his last one now, he bought three and was attracted to them because of the price and those pretty little knobs. 1: they are a pain to mount, trust me, my buddy has asked me to mount and dismount two so far. 2: they wear ultra fast. One ride on them in hard pack and rocks you will see first hand.

The fronts by Sedona are great, but to make them work a tubliss @5psi is right around ideal for what I ride in.

I'd still buy 1 to try out, We don't ride solid rock here and I've had good luck with them + it didn't seem that bad to mount either Again I'm running it TuBliss but in the PNW you may have more dirt than in AZ

My rear tire hits the tail pipe with the 140 on it. It looks good but it is too much tire it takes up a lot of space in the wheel well, and my seat height is almost 40in.

I run a 140 on my bike because I got a sweet deal on one new and I do like the look of it. It's on it's last leg and I have no complaints with it. My next tire waiting to go on is a 120, so we'll see.

im about to change my stock metz 6 day 140-80-18 to a 110 or 120 for several reasons-turn better, spin less, and less unsprung weight for the shock to deal with.tyre weights vary by a surprising amount so a weight reduction of tyre in this case(also tube,rim/hub,rotors) should also reduce gyroscopic effect and further aid turning.

Trials tires and Tublis rule here. It took me a long time to agree to put a ugly trials tire on my bike. But when I gave in, it was heaven. Guys are also running the Tublis at zero pounds with a knobby. Thats why the Sedona appeals to me. Seems to be the best of both worlds.

I will just send it to Desertgasser300 to mount ;)

been tempted to try a trials tyre but haven't as yet, wouldnt a heavier rear wheel tyre add some 'flywheel'effect also?ie.spin up a little slower, but carry its momentum a little further?tradeoff-more gyroscopic effect.how does the trials setup compare on weight?tyre plus tubliss, extra rimlock etc

I would guess a tire is different from something you can clutch. I would think a larger tire weight wise would spin up slower but also brake slower, not many want less braking power, but depending on tire difference it can make a difference.
