2011 Carb Size 36 or 38

Literature tells me the carbs are 38. However, the stamp on the top shows a 36 inside the little round cut out on the top of the slide cover. I have no clue if the two things are related. So are they 36 or 38's?

This is the 300 ec/xc.

You have a 36 (same as mine). There is no logic to which bike gets what. You would think that 250s might have the 36 and 300s might have the 38, but that is not the case. Carb fitment is totally random.

I thought the earlier bikes with the Sachs suspension (like mine) had 38mm carbs and the newer Ohlin/Zoke bikes had the 36mm.

My '11 250 has the 38 stamp.

Has anyone actually measured the carb bore to see if the "36/38" meant anything?

I don't think anyone has found any logic to the carbs. My 11 EC300 has the 38 with Sachs stuff. It's perplexing.

I am curious if their is much difference in the way they perform with the 36 vs the 38. If anybody has experimented with this I would love to here the results. Ross

2011 XC250-E, 36mm carb,178m,42p,N3EW-3rd clip, 4,500 ft. elevation,
55-60 deg. F.,

Bike runs great! I'll probably drop the main down to a 172 and the pilot to a 40 once it warms up around here. I have no spudder at all and the bike will idle for ever, even going down steep hills. Ross
