2011 Model Gassers

there are some rumors that GG will bring the EC250 and EC300 with electric starter for next year.
Does somebody knows more about this???

I wonder how much the bling adds to the production costs? Maybe not much, but your likely paying at least a little more for less durable and higher maintanence cosmetics. Leave the rims natural, anodize the hubs any color that does not matter. For the swingarm, leave that natural and provide a black OEM plastic guard similar to the Hyde or the frame guards.

I'd rather see more thought go into function over form. How about skid plate, rad cage, and pipe cage mounting points designed into the frame, with all the guards available as hard part accesories? Or, at least the mounts making a superior level of aftermarket parts possible. Boomer's Nambo 275 factory bike had some of this done as mods and it was sweet, would make maintanence a lot eaiser.

I am hoping the importer going over to Spain will ask a lot of questions to find out what the 2011 bikes will come with.

I am looking for the following things:
1) Full size flywheel
2) Estart so I have small battery and thus DC power to run a GPS (must also have a kickstart)
3) Non-racing CDI
4) Quiet exhaust
5) Quality suspension
6) Decent lights (I don't need full Euro street spec)
7) 17 digit North American compatible serial number

It would be nice if the bike had red plastic with white decals, silver rims and silver swingarm. The black rims look hideous, but it is only an appearance item. I'll take function and reliability over looks any day.

If a small flywheel comes stock for 2011, I'll probably pass on the GasGas unless a full size flywheel can be retrofitted (and keep the estart). Please let us know where the estart mounts and what changes were made to the engine cases.

The advanced images suggest the bike has the 2K3 ignition, i.e. larger flywheel.

Aw back to the plastic color debate.

I agree, white plastic is a bit harder to keep looking clean. One positive with white, it doesn't white in a crash. My 08's red plastic gets white bends in it if it didn't break through. Also the red color really kind of has almost a hue of orange to it in the sun light. Its probably faded some. I should pull out my new set and compare.

The hebo brand stuff didn't do that, even the blue through 04-06 in my experience. Really though last years black plastic is probably worse than the white as far as keeping looking fresh.

I noticed KTM ditched the black wheels for natural for 2011. At least someone is listening.

Yeah, for the XC's and MX models. The XCW's still get black...stupid:rolleyes: I'll forgive them for this year as they finally put 6 speed gearboxes in the 250 and 300 bikes. Now gimme one of those new Berg 2 strokes in blue with the blue rims, CC forks, and 6 speed tranny. Sorry, I like it what can I say....well, it's not available in the US how's that?

I like the true innovation of the Berg 4-stroke, but the blue KTM no thanks. I was hoping KTM might use Berg as a platform for some out of the box 2-stroke design, like a laid down direct injected motor. But hey, times are tough and blue plastic it is.

Bring back the silver D.I.D u-rims. They were alot stronger than these exel crap rims they use now. What kind of rims are even on the new bike? And the ttx should be an option on all models. I'd sell one of the kids to get my hands on a new 250 with the TTX.

Notice how the muffler prevents getting one's hand under the rear mud guard rail ? A shorty would be a nice option.

One of the main reasons I sold my Stealth after a couple rides, its just a little too big. You should be able to use an FMF Turbine Core or Power Core for an '07, or an OEM GG (Messico) silencer like my '07 came with.

+1, a little heavier but prefered on a rock bike.

With much sadness, I discovered that my rear rim was damaged during my last ride. For some reason my spokes loosened up to the point that the rim was wobbling. The only thing I can think of is it was the trials tire. I didn't check my spokes after the first day's ride and at the end of the second day things were very loose.

Anyway, at least one of the spoke holes is oval. I am sick over this because I don't think I can replace it. I may just have to see if it will work as is. :(

Sorry about the hijack.

I have the Q Stealth on my Nambo , and yes it is tight right beside the muffler but there is still enough room to grab the sub fender farther back and it is still strong there to pull on. As well as i use the Tugger Straps for most pulling , but for a dead lift i grab the sub frame behind the muffler with no problems. I really like the Q , it makes great power and breaths really nice , im sold on it , tho it is big and does hang out there a bit , i still like the way the bike runs with it on
As far as the new rims , i too wish they were the silver DID rims , but i run a trials tire and have had no problems so far and my KTM buddy has been running the trials tire on his black Excel rims for years now and yes they are scuffed and scratched here and there , but are still in great shape. Hes even ridden out on flat trials tires a few times and the rim is still true and not messed up from that.

The Excels on my 2008 after 2 1/2 seasons of racing\riding are perfectly square now! :D

The DID U rims are the best hands down. Then the next generation regular shape DID were still twice as strong as the Excels, but I still managed a couple dents in my 06 DID's after a couple years.

That sucks about your rim Eff.

If some of the holes are misshaped you may be able to take it apart and warm up the aluminum a bit in the area and with a hammer manipulate the metal back in place. For the ones beyond that I would think they can be repaired . We have a local wheel guy up in our area that does incredible work, and I would imagine someone out in your area specializes in this sort of thing.

If its one of these newer black rims it just compounds trying to fix problems like this.

I don't think the new Q-Stealth is any longer than the TC-2 that came on my 2010, I think they've all gotten longer to cut noise which is a good thing.

I agree that the black parts are a P.I.T.A. to keep looking nice, but when you are trying to attract new people to a brand or even a sport, sometimes bling goes a long way on the showroom floor. It's gotta be a fine line figuring out how to make it "flashy" enough to catch people's eyes, but functional enough to keep the core customers around.

As far as ignitions go, every bike that I have seen brought into Canada, including regular EC's, six days, racing's, and the Nambo have all had the heavy ignition (2K3) for 2010. These motors work so well with the heavy ignition, I wouldn't want it any other way.:D

i gotta say that the sound of the q-stealth alone should make people wanna retro fit one the size to me is neither here nor there its not as small as a turbine core but its not as big as a 4 stroke but the sound is so much better! i mean if its just for looks then thats a preference but for function i dont think you can go wrong

Thanks for the tip Roscoe. We have a wheel repair guy up here too. Maybe I'll give him a call.

The problem with big mufflers, 2 or 4 stroke, is they put a lot of leverage on your subframe and make it easier to bend in a crash. In rock country, where tipovers in technical terrain are not uncommon, this is just another hassle I prefer to avoid. A well maintained TC2 is quiet enough for anything I do, in fact its not even close to the average 4-stroke that greatly out numbers us 2-stroke guys. The average 2-stroke sound does not carry far in the woods while you can hear a 4-stroke for miles. I got the Stealth for riding with my kids in a more open local area close to some homes. It was still a bit loud for that anyway.

I also like the OEM silencer if I do not need an SA. Both are short enough to allow easy use of the grab rail.

ive had alot of exhausts in the last few years and i cant say the weight is that extreme of a difference between aftermarket(stock pipes excluded) to consider stress on a sub-frame as a concern.however i can relate to the comment of the pipes physical demensions, if it was a little smaller it would be great so damage would not be so easily incurred. that being said i think it comes down to preference with sound and power, there very subjective so go with what works for you:D

The weight has nothing to do with it, its the increased leverage of the long muffler on the subframe/mounts if the end hits something in a fall. Seen it happen on a Husky and snap the mounts off, and if I didn't we wouldn't be having this discussion. I've smashed the endcap half flat on a TC2 but it did not lever the subframe. Hey no argument here about quiet bikes being good, if you need the extra few db reduction then use it. I honestly didn't think it was a night and day difference in sound from the TC2 with good packing. Of all three silencers I've used on the bike I can't tell any difference in power for the riding I do.
