2T Racing Flywheel Weight

Got a chance to install a 2T Racing flywheel weight on my 2011 XC 300, wow! What a pleasant surprise. Makes it nearly unstallable, while still being able to zing it easily. No mods necessary for install and no spacers, just pull off factory nut, and reinstall 2t nut with the weight, seamless installation.
I have the 2K-3 Ignition/Big Ignition. I have ridden bikes with the small ignition that were overweighted, this does not have that feeling what so ever.

Most people here are racers and will tell you're crazy to add that to a 2K3. I'm with you, I prefer heavy flywheels for my type of riding. The info for that weight doesn't show the actual weight. Did you weigh it before the installation? I doubt these could be used on an estart bike.

Suspects! It all depends on what you want from the bike. Thats whats so great is that its all so versatile. I personally want mine to come to life the instant I open the throttle! HOLD ON!!

Not for me, thats for sure. I don't prefer the 2K-3s but I understand why some do. What I don't understand is how you said this setup felt good and some other weighted 2K-2s felt too heavy. The 2K-3 flywheel itself has almost twice the MOI of a 2K-2 with the heaviest weight. I don't think GG lightened the crank either. Flywheel effect is represented by MOI, which is a function of weight and diameter. For a true comparison, you would have to try them on the same bike.

I rode a 300 with the 2k-2 and the biggest weight you could slap on and it was one of the slowest revving bikes I have ever ridden. It made the whole bike feel sluggish.

With the setup I have now, with a simple blip of throttle and a little clutch it revs in an instant. I guess I never understood why guys wanted to go to a small ignition on a 300 personally? My theory is if you wanna deal with getting your arms jerked run a 250? My overall goal with this 300 is that it has some zing, but doesn't jerk my arms out of the sockets in the corners when I pin it.

I am a big guy and any extra flywheel allows for me to climb hils with more authority. I will tell you that there is not a huge miraculous difference in my bike with or without the weight, but nearly stops any chance to stall. Allowing me to ride without much clutch.

I know a keeper when I ride one, people have been asking for these for years!

Yes, it helps the low low, turns into a tractor down low, but I have never ridden a tractor with quite the zing of the 300.

I like the improvement in low speed chugability, but it's not a massive difference. I am guessing that it might equal the low end of a 300 (but have yet to ride a 300). Just for reference, the estart flywheel weighed 1105.5 grams. With the bronze weight installed it is 1327.5 grams.

I agree with Glenn and I bet the bike you rode had sloppy jetting or a poorly timed powervalve. A flywheel weight by itself won't make a drastic change to the engine characteristics.

so you added roughly 10 oz to the 2k3?

222 gm = 7.83 oz

I replaced the stator mounting allen screws with M5 hex bolts so the heads were lower than the stator plate. The weight clears the stator plate by 10 thou and clears the magnetic pickup by 5 thou. Goes down around the rim of the stock flywheel and contours to the shape of the magnet can. One of the trickier machining jobs I've done. I had to skim the flywheel so the weight would run true to the crankshaft (I made a jig that duplicates the crank taper).

The 2T weight weighs in at 8 oz, I was told. But personally I don't have the time nor the desire to find out what the actual rotational weight would be that would affect the actual performance of the bike. Sometimes I like to just bolt it on and see how it feels. For me, it is a simple no brainer, adds to the chug, and still zings more than I can handle. If I could bolt a little more on I would. If I want my wrists jerked out, I just put it on the sunny setting and it reminds me what I don't enjoy, carpal tunnel like symptoms and loss of traction. Everyone has a riding style, mine may sound like I like to hitch up a plow to it, but I am a big enough sail the way it is.

The true beauty of these bikes are in their simplicity. Very very tunable depending on what you want from the engine.

I have the flywheel weight coming. Really looking forward to it. The bike is just about perfect now, this may be the icing on the cake.

LOL...got it on and I didn't even have time to try it in the yard...maybe tomorrow.

BTW 18mm to take off the stock nut and 32mm to put the new one on...for those keeping score at home.

We await your ride report.

My DE 250 supposedly has an MX set-up to which the original owner added a 9 oz (or was it 11 oz?) FWW. Sometimes I like it just fine. Sometimes I want more weight (climbing hills). Sometimes I want less (clutching out of corners).

So, I'll be getting a new 300 (RB modded, of course) which will likely laugh at most FWW I could throw at it.

I just don't see the need for all this weight. Just get a G2 throttle and use a #200/#400 cam and you will come to like lighter flywheels. Yesterday I rode one of the slickest, nastiest mud races I have ever done. Rocks, roots, rutted hills down to the clay underneath. At no time did I wish for more weight than the 2K-2/14 oz.
