50T vs 48T Sprocket - EC200?

i started with 13/48 too on my ec 200.
had some trouble getting up very steep hills, from standstill.
switched to 12/48, not bad, alltough a lil' short on highway (if i ever do that).
12/48 takes me everywhere i can,untill i flip it over :-P
next change of sprockets/chain i'll go to 13/50.
hope i'll still have enough power without clutch (ab-)use

Hannes.

We actually run 13/51 on ours and the gearing is perfect for tight NW woods and those technical climbs. It allows you to run 2nd and 3rd most of the day and keep that motor in the sweet spot and use 1st for the nasty hill climb with the roots and rock sections.

That's good to know, and now I have a follow-up question after actually checking my countershaft sprocket this past weekend.

Turns out I have a 12T front, so it's running 12/48. I still think I would benefit from running a slightly larger rear sprocket, but don't know about going to a 50T.

Any thoughts all?

After reading all the posts here, the older 200's seem to like 13/50. I think they changed the gear box ratios at some point on the newer 200's. 12/50 is perfect for tighter trails. Try it you'll like it.

Have to agree with that, I run 12/48 on my 05/200 gasser and it's fine unless you are doing a lot and I do mean a lot of road miles. Will sit nicely at 55mph and have had it up to 75mph on the clock down a fire road!

I think I'll probably go 13/52 on my 250 next time around. Banging into some steeper and more challenging terrain with better riders has highlighted I could use a bit more grunt off the bottom in 2nd gear. I think thats what the clutch was telling me anyway.. *howl howl howl*

I find 13/52 is great for riding tighter trails.

I did a quick write-up on my impressions after switching to 12/50 from 12/48 - pretty much the same thing as 13/52 if my math isn't too wonky. It's worked great and I like it much better than the 48T sprocket for the stuff I ride.

Here's the write-up: 12/48 vs 12/50 EC200
