Aftermarket Fuel Tank Cap?

Okay boys I have had it!!!!!!!! I have gone thru 3 frigging gas caps on my bike and they all start to leak. Yesterday I felt my leg getting quite hot and wouldn't you know it gas was all over my left leg. This is starting to become a KTM like problem.

Who makes a billet aftermarket fuel tank cap??? Or something that the damn rubber gasket does not shrink?

This was posted yesterday by Nano and fixed by Bearman:

Scroll down to see the gas cap. pretty sweet!

Good timing on your question.

Boomer. Do you know why it's leaking?
I'm asking because if the tank is deformed, the aluminum cap will leak also.

2T Racing cap.

Girard it looks like to me that the gas is deforming the gasket inside the gas cap. All of the bad caps I have you can see that the gasket has shrunk and no longer holds it's shape nor will they seal. Plus they are rock hard. Must be the Sunoco 110!;)

Yeah, I had one do that.
You could probably find a rubber gasket that is the same size and try that instead.

Mine leaked too, but it swelled up out of shape instead of shrinking. Its either something new in the pump gas, or the gasket rubber compound was changed. Get some 1/16" sheet silicone rubber (not affected by fuel) and cut a new gasket. The center part is no big deal and not really needed, I had cut a bigger hole in mine anyway to aid in tank venting. Like Girard said make sure the tank neck sealing surface is square and smooth.

Tank neck & sealing surfaces look good. I almost wish I would have kept my stock 04 tank when I sold the 04 with that quick fill cap vs. having my leg getting soaked in race gas!

problem with my '00 EC300 is that the tank neck is deformed so i cant seal the fuel tank with the fuel cap anymore.
the top of the fuel neck is not flat anymore, it's bent towards the inside of the neck.
how do i solve this problem?
anyone have this before, sure someone must have?

thanks, hannes.

not sure if the newer gg are the same,, but my 03 was the same as my buddies husky wr125/150.. If you could grab up a billet cap for one of those to try..

The race gas will definetly shrink the gasket. The dry break covers do the same thing and even though selling new covers was good for business i told my customers to remove them when not racing and they lasted alot longer.

it won't be solved with a newer or different cap because the neck of the tank is bent = no flat surface to seal...
the neck of the fuel tank is not thick enough to be strong.
and when tightened too hard, the surface were it needs to seal off, it's bent...

hannesd, maybe you could put something inflatable in the filler neck so that there was pressure pushing outwards and heat it somehow so as to get the form back. Otherwise its a new tank.

Sorry to hijack this thread

Is there a cross over part for the 2006 ec 300 gas cap? I broke the vent pipe off..... tryed to glue it back but wasn't very succesfull. I have seen Acerbis caps but cant find an agent in SA.

Gas cap

I made a gasket from an old inner tube, worked on my '98 250, worth a try. I always keep old inner tubes, in the vintage days they had many uses.

Sounds like the filler neck could use an insert of some type to act as a stiffener. Many jap bikes have what appears to be a nylon insert or sleeve in the filler neck.
