Base gasket preparation?

Folks,

Should the base gasket (0.50mm used between the cylinder and the cases) be applied:
1) Dry?
2) Oiled?
3) Greased (with, say, Bel-Ray High Temp Assembly Lube)?
4) Something else?

Thanks.

I've used all four over the years (#4 being anti-sieze). Sealing has never been an issue with any method, but #4 gives the best results when it's time for disassembly.

Is it safe to just run the .15 gasket? My head is stock with plenty of extra squish, seems like the thin gasget could take up some slack. It seems that I have 3-4 of them from old gasket kits. Any thoughts?

I've run mine this way for 2 yrs now with no problem. Still excessive squish but better. I'd definitely suggest a good sealer though as there's little "seal" in that .15 gasket.

Just for interest, we used to run racing 80 and 125 MXers with no base gasket, only Hylomar.
