Classic 250vrs300 but wit a twist

That is a hard decision for you to make. Not easy at all with so much input. So here comes mine too!!
I love my 250 and I equally love my 300.
I did have to learn to manage the power of the 300.(the hardway) The G2 throttle inserts makes it more controllable also. I did read correctly that some avoid the power of it? I like it because it is there when I want it. You can get the best of both just by replacing the jug and piston! Makes your 300 a 250 or your 250 a 300 all in just 30 minutes, but at a price!

As for the Rekluse. When I rode my buddies Katoom with the Rekluse. Well, I was hooked! Having an auto clutch is all personal preference.

As for all you Rekluse haters, it's an awesome progression of the industry!
Remember when bikes went to single rear shocks, or water cooled engines and USD forks? I remember people being outraged and calling those riders cheaters. It's great to see untapped usable technology.

If your already thinking about a Rekluse, chances are there is one in your near future!:D

I'll pass on the auto clutch :) No issues with the old school one atm!

For those who own/ride both bikes. Whats the difference in the mid to top output? As it stands I have tuned my 300 to be somewhat soft off the bottom with a strong to mid top. I love the explosive snappy power that the top end delivers but it seems on the 300 i'm only ever bursting into it before getting back into the brakes and setting up for the next corner. Would the 250 be a bit quicker to get into the revs and let me hold them a bit longer?

You can convince yourself the 250 is everything you need - until you try a 300 :D

That's pretty funny....

But I think I agree with Glen (GMP)

Im not sure about Gas Gas but with ktm the 300 has 1hp more than the 250. Im sure the Gassers are similar. Im with bchatt in that i don't get the recluse thing yet, especially on a 300. Its has so much torque that i don't see how the recluse is all that helpful. I have ridden bikes with the recluse and could not feel they were there. Maybe I need to spend more time with one. The idea of having front and rear brakes on the handle bars is very attractive to me, i raced bicycles so it would be natural. Obviously i would want the rear on the right.

Between the 250 and 300 decision, there is no wrong answer. Which ever you buy you will adapt to very quickly I'm sure. If your just riding trails and play riding I'd get the 300. If your racing Id get the 250. Cool thing about the 300 is that you can ride it very quickly and very quietly, you can really sneak up on people.

If considering a Rekluse you owe it to yourself to use the CORE EXP model. Night and day difference compared to the pro. Yes it the most pricey unit they have, but it's worth it. Especially if you want regular clutch modulation and feel.

Especially easy to sneak up on those noisey 4 strokes :p I've had pleanty of comments about how quiet the 300 is and that they don't realise you're behind them until your buzzing past.

jakobi,

To answer your question, yes, the 250 does rev quicker and you will be able to ride it on the pipe more.

Yeah, but the 250 is easy to jet and that may not be to your liking:D
Judging by the way you ride in your vids, I'd say the 250 is just what you need - zingy and alive!

At the National Enduro in PA two years ago I beat Dave Gunn by one second for 3rd in the 40+A class. I was very happy to beat him there because it was rocky and he's from New England and rides the rocks really well. One stall would have changed those results. That's the main reason why I started using a Rekluse.

Good point Clay. Not so much an issue for a weekend warrior though! The beers taste better the more times you have to kick it :p

Bchatt, GMP.. Sounds like you've just about sold me on the 250! I don't see much point in upgrading from a 2010 300 to a 2012 300.. Only pro would be it would look new and I could swap my parts and knowledge base over..

I guess my riding style can be a bit lazy through some more technical areas but I'm sure the 250 would still chug through slippery rooty sections and just be a bit more quicker revving when I see the clearing ahead

Every time I ride my 250 I tell myself, I need more power-I need more power, race results tell a different story, I've done better on the 250 than the 300. I'm not in very good shape, A-vet racer at 250 pounds so I can't help but think that if my conditioning was up to par the 300 would be better.

So, if you race and are light (under 200#) or out of shape, go for the 250.

If your riding area has a lot of elevation change, go for the 3 hunney.

From a FUN standpoint, the 250 gets the nod for a livelier power band and lighter handling.

I made this offer on another thread and I will repeat it here. We simply don't have enough employees to do demo rides around the country like big orange does. If anyone wants to meet me here in TN to try both out, please drop me an email at: clay@ggor.us or call me at 615 347 6519.

I would never waste the money on a Rekluse, if I was just recreational riding, fast or slow. But in a race, seconds count and stuff can sneek up on you in an enduro. I know the Rekluse saves me time and positions. Come on, $900 for a 2" taller plastic trophy is worth it, right?

Seems the off-road family is pretty much split down the middle concerning the Rekluse.

During last sunday's enduro I was called a cheater by another racer because of the rekluse. "Oh well", I said, "mind your own business!"

Do what "YOU" want regardless of what others say about it.

The only reason someone would say something like this is if they wanted one but couldn't afford one!

At the end of the day bike setup is a personal preference. Some people like steering stabilizers, others don't. Doesn't mean one setup is better than any other. Its just what works for you.

Next thing you know they'll be saying we're all cheaters because we're riding Gassers :D Plus we all know factory racers with top of the line suspension and engine mods are cheating aswell..
