closed petcock= highly elevated rpms?

so with the fuel bowl running lower and lower after closing off fuel, my engine starts racing very high... could this mean that i'm running rich on my PJ?
got 40 in it now...no head mod, nfairly new piston, all good condition engine.

just noticed this last weekend.end of the ride, put my bike against a tree (no side stand) and shut fuel off and after 15sec rso, it happens...

thanks for helping me with this..

ciao, Hannes.

Yep! Totally normal.. Its leaning itself off as it runs out of fuel. As the float height drops it pulls less and less until its got nothing else to pull and it conks out.

If you were to lean the idle circuit off the rpm would rise accordingly until you get to the point where it either races away (won't drop back down), the bike will be a pain to start (especially cold), and it will hestitate when you go to open the throttle. Thus the comment, jet for response.

i have off idle good response, sounds good, not rich...nor lean.
only thought it wouldn't make so much difference when closing the petcock.
starts good, everytime, even when been upside down :D

guess i'll just ignore it, true, it's not a real running condition...

thanks, guys.

Hannes.

If you accidentally ride off with the fuel off you'll notice it starts to hunt and surge, the same way a bike would with a pilot thats too lean. Its just the bike running out of fuel ;)
