I haven't put a poll out for a while so I thought I would throw this fun little fact finder out about us Gas Gas riders.

I like to tell the owners of autoclutched bikes that my wife or mother would probably like the clutch in that bike. I consider 50 to be the minimum age for anyone using an autoclutch, that gives me 10 years till I can consider one and to keep flipin people s#$t about them.

Rode an 07 YZ250 and an 09 KTM200 with Rekluse autos last week ... I wasn't sold on them before the ride, and likely less so after. My XC250 has the best clutch actuation of anything I've ridden, not to mention the light pull, and it's hard to stall a GasGas anyway ...

I had an auto clutch in other bikes, but never out one in a gasser. Mainly because you couldn't buy a Rekluse Pro. I have an EXP Core clutch ready to go in next week.

I don't run one...But just because someone does, doesn't mean they don't know how to use a clutch.
That said...
(Something about old dogs and new tricks)
After riding for 40 years I'm thinking it would be very hard to learn how the use one properly (Auto Clutch). And just say I liked it...then what...I would have to put one in every bike I own... No thx.

I do not currently have one in my 300 only because the hydraulic clutch works so well and is an easy pull. I had the Rekluse Pro in my zy250f and LOVED it. It has nothing to do with knowing how to use a clutch but more with taking advantage of a performance enhancing bolt-on that works over stock (cable). This is mainly for racing. For trail riding and playing around I would rather have a manual clutch just because it's more fun!

I have hated Rekluse clutches with a passion until I rode a bike with an EXP in it and now I am sold.

I chose thinking about installing one.

I am contemplating installing a EXP in my new E start 300.

I have never had one on any of my bikes, but I have seen the advantage work for guys who race. Their corner speed and the effortless starting of the bike in gear has helped them a bunch.

The biggest hurdle is the cost. I may need to take a second on the house.

Paul (PEB)would then be able to flip me S!&#%T about my clutch and E start. But I still won't be running a trials tire. 2 for 3 ain't bad. ;)

i had one on my husaberg 650 and it was a little difficult to set up, newer ones are ez, but i liked it.
aside form the ability to slip the clutch perfect, the auto clutch allowed me to turn my left lever from a clutch to a rear brake.
that was sweet coming down the real nasty stuff.
but i dont really see too much need for my 06 ec300 since its ez to use as is.
i think that if you ride on that is set up properly, its like an electric start button, once you use it you love and cant do without it.

I just rode my XC300 tonight for the first time with the EXP installed. I also have a WR250 Husky with a Rekluse Pro. I too thought I didn't need an auto clutch, because I know how to use my clutch. I'm also an upper level trials competitor.

But I have to say for woods racing, it's a definite advantage. Virtually never stall your bike. Don't have to worry about covering your clutch when brake sliding, going over obstacles, etc... And if you fall, the bike generally keeps running. It also helps hook up on dead engine starts and you bog-o-matic through the woods, if it's greasy and knarly.

I think it's great plus for racing. I know I get a 4" bigger trophy, because of it.:D If I was just trail riding, I wouldn't bother. And wouldn't recommend one for a beginner either. Not that it won't make things easier for them, but you should know how to use the clutch, if you're gonna ride a motorcycle.

You would have to say that Scott wouldn't you. Man...I spent enough this year.

Leave me a lone..

My bro in law has one in his CFR450, works for him, and I have plenty of seat time on that pig.....I should have rode Roostafish's 250 and gave it a try on a 2 stroke. Not sure what it would be like on my 200. I guess for the money I could buy a several clutch kits.....

So far, I have the opposite opinion. I like the Pro in my Husky, better than the EXP in my GG. The EXP does have a better feel at the clutch lever though.

Curious as to why you like the Pro better than the EXP (not that we have a choice with the GG)? Have you tried lighter wedges in the EXP?

My Pro engages at idle, so when the bike is idling it wants to creep forward, but will not while sitting on it. Then it's a very smooth engagement when you roll the throttle on. Hard to even tell it has an auto clutch in it. Don't ask me how many balls, blah, blah, because I don't remember. It was installed via the manual recommendations and haven't screwed with it since.

My EXP does not engage at idle. It engages at just a hair above idle, but there is a very slight hesitation, before the clutch engages. Then there is pronounced slippage and seems to hook up completely about 1/3 throttle. Again the clutch was installed per the instructions and haven't tried adjusting it.

It's not a big deal, but my Husky is more seamless. The EXP you can definitely tell when it's slipping and then hooking up. It could just be the difference between the two bikes and how the Rekluse functions with each model.

I was not happy when I heard you couldn't get a Pro model with the GG. I like how my Husky clutch works and wanted to stay with the Pro. Plus shelling out $900 is getting a little ridiculous. $600 is bad enough and I could care less if I have a Rekluse clutch cover. I just think it's a way for Rekluse to force the covers on you and as far as I can see, I don't know why the EXP costs more to manufacture.

Thanks for the reply and explanation.

Perhaps you could talk to Rekluse and tell them how you want the EXP to hook up and they could give you some advice.

I rode the GG again today and really don't like how my EXP is working. I need to tinker with it.

It is unclear to me how an auto-clutch can be set up to work in all conditions. Depending on how much power I need (or can put down to the ground), I may have a wide range of RPM's dialed up as I slip the clutch up the side of a tough hill.

Do the auto clutches have some way of sensing torque or whatever that they allow higher engine speed in situations that demand it? My bike does not make enough low end torque to get up some hills if the clutch engaged at just above idle.

Have never ridden with one of these, but approaching 50 I can in some cases begin to see the benefit of having one. Getting too old to get restarted on the side of a hill when I screw up my line choice.

I rode again today and the other thing I noticed is when manually overiding the EXP, you have to pull the clutch lever all the way to the bar. No one or two finger clutch technique because it won't release. I already have my free play set to almost nil. Don't like this about the EXP either, which baffles me, because they boast up the fact that you can still use the clutch like normal. Not on my bike anyway.

Got the clutch adjusted some more and the clutch feel is normal now and has the proper friction point. Still like my Pro clutch better, but EXP is getting better.
