EC300 Running Rich in first half of throttle

Australia post service is an absolute joke. You are better off joining a baseball club, getting some practice in and just throwing your packages. Or training some carrier pigeons.

A stic kit was sent to me from the US from EAGLE RIVER, WI 54521 on May 11th. May 12th it was in Chicago. Since May 16th USPS tells me it is in transit to the next facility, wherever this may be.

Over a month now and no clue where my stuff is.

Finally got round to installing the new needle. Been pouring with rain here recently and too much else to do.
Bike definitely running a whole lot better! What a difference a needle can make! Not as boggy when pulling away from low revs. Doesn't require the throttle held half open to start it after stalling. Easier to ride slow.

If I've been pottering around slowly in 1st, then accelerate hard, it still has a bit of hesitation. Eg accelerates, flattens, then pulls away again. Once you do this once and let it "clear it's throat" it's crisp after that if I repeat the acceleration. How normal is that or can some more tuning improve this?

Tried different airscrew settings. 1.5 out was what I normally used. Didn't notice a lot of difference 2 turns out. Still learning to feel the difference. Even 2.5 turns out I didn't notice an obviously 'lean' condition eg expected revs staying high after blipping throttle.

What's your current setting?

I like to make sure the slide is almost closed. I want my bike to idle in neutral, but the drag of the clutch to be just enough to make it stall.

You'll never find a 'perfect setting'. If you run just right doing loops of the back yard you'll probably find yourself lean when out under some heavy loads. Acknowledge that there will be compromises and then tune for what works best for most of your riding.

Just had conversation with a mate we put a new needle in. Out on a road ride, stopped for a pie.

Was super sceptical. Then became a convert

Yeah currently in clip 2 as you advised and 1.5 turns out. I'm happy, prefer a tad rich provided it doesn't foul my plugs than too lean, and means I can open it up if need be.

Should I do a plug chop with the new needle setup to check it's not too lean at the top?

And like you say, very very easy to change the needle. Much faster than I expected.

Mine wasn't revving out till I went down a main, and then again till it did. But I have reshaped head so result may vary.

Have a play with your air screw setting. Sounds like its close.

You can do plug chops etc with the main if you'd like. No harm in doing so.

I would consider a bigger slide cutaway,
I believe the #7 slide is the main contributor to this hesitation coming off closed throttle. Certainly worked for me grinding to #8 when i changed needle to the N3EH. and found it just as you described.

The only thing I would change now is to have the appropriate needle that would allow the clip on the middle slot whilst keeping the same fuelling. It is currently on the top slot so there is no adjustment for warmer weather.
