My son wanted to try one of the Mid-America Cross Country (MAXC) events as a first race shakedown before we start our enduro season. So we loaded up the truck and trailer and headed for Quincy IN last weekend.
I knew it was going to be bad when they needed a tractor to pull us into (and out of) the parking lot. It wasn't just us. Almost everyone with a trailer and everyone without 4x4 had to be pulled in.
Track conditions were worse than the parking area. There were deep ravines that created huge bottlenecks resulting in ad-hoc course re-routing (by officials and riders), then pretty much chaos. Bikes were steaming and dying horrible deaths all over the place.
The GasGas performed flawlessly in the 90-minute plus one lap cross country mudfest. The bike's radiators were completley blocked with mud by the end. Yeah it ran hot. But it ran the whole time. We even had the original FIM tires on it. They were "not as bad as I thought they would be" according to my son.
My boy was scored as 7th in the Open A class, 19th Overall.
We like enduros better.
I'll get a couple of pics and maybe a short video posted soon.
