Forks

I just talked to a local shop that is going to set my suspension up for my weight.

He was talking about the fork seals and how expensive they are and how he will only put OEM seals on the forks. Why is that?

Is Hall's the best place to get those seals?

How can I tell what forks I have? I have looked online and seem to get any solid information about them. I don't see any numbers of writing on them they are plain gray at the bottom and shinny up top.

What started all this is the front end washed out several times while riding the other day and the rear end hit me like a bucking bronco several times, I about ate a tree!

EDIT: Frame says 98 250 motor is 99EC200......I looked for a picture and history of the bikes and can't find one for the EC but plenty of trials history.

Measure the shiny part of the fork, it should be 45mm. If so, they are Marzocchi Magnum 45 forks. There should be some good aftermarket seals available or try Halls.

Without the sag set you can just expect the front to wash get the proper springs and go from there.

SKF seals are top of the line.

So should I fork over the $600 for a full front and back suspension job with him having me there to set sag and all.

Or....Get the right rear spring and see what happens?

P.S. The $600 includes; Springs Front and back and re-valve. Plus a one on one with setting sag right.

front and rear springs, revalve and help with setting it up-for $600?? Jump on that offer while it's still an option. i'm not sure about prices where you are , but up here in canada eh, 250-300 bucks will buy you a set of springs, and then the valving, seals, oil, etc is all on top of that.

If he's a decent suspension tuner then that's a great deal. That's the best place you can spend money on your bike!

In bold is the key word.

Are they a suspension tuner, or just a local shop who also services forks?

What I am getting at is that mechanically, just about anyone can split a set of forks, make a few changes, and put them back together with fresh oil, some new seals, and possibly bushings too.

Someone who specialises in suspension however will more than likely check things over in much greater detail. Will have base line setups and data regarding a specific fork (and application) and be able to fine tune it to your requirements. Many will continue to refine this until you are happy with it as part of their price.

Well, it's Ullrich Performance in Johnson City, TN.

Highly recommended Never used him but at the last race I seen at least 10 different bikes with his stick on it and several cars with his stick on it. Along with talking to a couple of people about his work. Tuner, not sure but every person seems really happy with his work.
