GasGas small fit vs others true? Sizing changes over the years?

The initial reason I bought a gasser was I could touch the ground on it. Set out to buy a KTM 300 but couldn't hold it up in the shop without dumping it over (I have a 30" inseam). Yeah. Then I ran across GasGas and will never look back. I had Les Tinius lower my bike 1 inch and I love it even more. I have whined to Jimmy Lewis (dirt rider mag) about seat height and why KTM (or anyone) won't make a smaller frame bike for those of us that are shorter than the average Austrian. He sent me a lengthy letter on how he has preferred GasGas over KTM for years for handling, power delivery, gearbox, which KTM is catching up on now. He also finished Erzberg twice on a GasGas 250. So GasGas for me started out solely on fit, but now has won me over on almost everything else.

So I see that the 2013 seems to be the largest size progression of the gasgas.. Where is it that the size gets larger say from around 2005? Is it the same till 2009 then 2010 it gets bigger? then larger to 11 and 12?.. just wondering.. also I'm wondering where gasgas started to get the 2 position top triple clamp . I have an 01' 300 and it's small. I've gotten some rear offsett pegs , a taller seat and some cheapo bar mounts that move the bars forward. It's better but I'd just like to know for future upgrades to bike or upgrading to another bike.. I see a nice 2009 in c l but no sense even think upgrade if the size is pretty much the same.

I don't think there is any significant difference from your '01 to a '11 as far as size, they are all compact. The '12 is a different bike, and the tallest GG. '13 is about 10mm lower, but other dimensions same as '12.

-I'm 5'3 and about 160 , ride a GG 2011 300, had it lowered 2 inches fore and aft by Dave at STM suspension. best bike ever! the peg to seat distance is just fine for me as is the bar reach(i have the bars set at the most compact distance). My husband had a KTM 200 exc and i felt the gasser has better ergonomics for a short person but just my thoughts.

Thanks for your input. I'm just curious, what year is your husband's KTM 200? One of the bigger 2008+ bikes? Was the 2" lowering done all through suspension limiting or was there any linkage or seat shaving involved? Thanks.

I just got my 2004 EC200 and it's pretty damn tall for my 5'4 frame! I may even have short legs for my already short height:D. I'm looking at a 1.5" suspension limiting by LTR soon, and to my dismay, the seat doesn't have much foam to shave off:(. I have even considered doing an extensive subframe custom mod so I can keep more wheel travel for the whoops in Eastern WA, but the limiting factor is the hump on the back of the fuel tank!

I would not cut the subframe, it will just lead to more fitment problems. Proper lowering and/or adapt to it(you will).

Yesterday I let a guy who is 5'5" ride an XRide. He had a big grin on his face because it was the first time he had ever been able to flat foot with both feet. Seat height is 32 " and weighs 202 pounds. Don't look at the XRide and write it iff as a compromise bike. It's a pretty decent off road bike, especially in technical stuff.

short rider

I am also a short rider-5'5", but I have been riding 30+ yrs. When younger I just accepted that I would always be far from the ground, unless I rode an xr80 :o . I just adapted my riding to 1 foot down, with 1 leg up over seat-when stopped. Kind of hanging off the side, I do get comments from taller riders at times.
If you have the suspension lowered, I wouldn't go more than an 1". Just my 02. I do not like to lose ground clearance.
I ride in the same area as you do, if you want to-I out on Mondays usually at Walker Valley. a PAIR of short guys on GG'S , Rippin through some gnarly singletrack . And besides,in the gnarly stuff the ground is rarely flat, always something to put your foot on.

Any way, what I am saying is just set-up the suspension and you will adapt to it. If you are new to riding, then maybe slightly lowering will help your confidence ,but do the minimum .

agree with the other short guys.. at 5'6" i have never gotten both feet down.. the wierd thing i hopped on a buds bike that was lowered an inch and i really could not tell that much difference.. gasser also..

dont know why, but the 07 as far as getting a foot down is better than my 01 was.. most of my falls are stopping, starting, loading, unloading... real pretty stuff that everyone sees..

The '07 has a flatter seating position, and the seat foam is beveled somewhat. The '12 is like this too, so even though its tall the seat helps get your legs closer to the bike and it effectively feels lower.

that makes sense..

Thanks for the tips, everybody! I figure that I'll always be 1 leggin' it tippie toe'd to the ground no matter what I do. I'll have to meet you guys for the short rider/GasGas owner ride at Walker Valley on Mondays!

Do you guys recommend 1 shop over another for my "go-to shop"? I'm sending my suspension to LTR across the sound, but as far as engine work, trouble shooting, etc, which do you like better between Tasky's, Skagit Powersports and Mt. Baker Moto Sports? My highest priority over price is simply patient, thorough, and friendly service for the newb vs the "everything will be fine, don't worry about it" type. I'm open to other shops, as well, like in Seattle. I figure I should get a "once over" before taking her into the woods to make sure everything is reliable.

area shops

I have no experience with Tasky's, but everytime I have visited they have been very nice. The shop I got my bike from is no longer a gasgas dealer, but they were good to me also. And might still be working on them- in Tacoma though.
Other people I talk to are happy with Tasky's service.
