Hey guys. Need a little help. I?ve been a diesel mechanic for nearly 20 years, but 2t is a little foreign to me. Even on a 8cyl Detroit this much play is NUTS! Please take a look at the vid (it?s 11sec long) and let me know how fcked I am. Thanks all. https://youtu.be/P3uLmZxEmk4

Yep that left hand side main bearing is cactus bud. If it is a early model Gasser you can replace the crappy roller bearing for a ball bearing. I?ve found they last way longer than the rollers do. It may have had those silly sealed bearing that Gasgas persisted with for a few years too, Had the motor been drowned before? What year is it?

It?s a 2010 EC250. I thought it was running rough due to jetting. Well... not likely. I?m absolutely crushed because I sold my KTM to make room for this bike (just got it, never ridden it except testing).

Rebuild it and it will be a better bike than the Ktm mate. It does suck when you buy something that has been poorly maintained. 2010 had the silly sealed main bearings. If you buy aftermarket ones make sure to pluck the seals out.

Does she vibe a lot? :D

The bearings are C4 so some play is expected (on a cold engine particularly), but from your video sounds excessive.

My 2010 had the sealed mains mentioned above. They lasted 260hrs and were ok when pulled down but there wasn't a lot of lubrication left in them.

These engines are easy to work on. Given that she's a new bike to you think of it as foreplay! Crack her open and see how the slug and big end looks. A couple fresh mains and button her back up. You'll know where you're starting from and get many hours enjoyment from it.

Regards poor running, have a look in the carb..

I had loose engine mounts. My newly rebuilt mains looked pretty sloppy when diagnosing it. No problem.

Yerp.. After rebuilding my 2010 I recall taking a video and having concerns with some similar play. Wasn't same as the video from what I recall but with the reed valves out I certainly could hear some movement when lifting the flywheel.

Found the video I had uploaded to youtube.. This is a freshly rebuild engine (every bearing replaced). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87yovgws65I

Do you have to split the cases to replace this bearing? I?ve never done it and don?t have the engine manual. The guy I got it from offered to fix or buy back from me. Considering both but I think I?ll let him buy it back.

There is a workshop manual getting around. I think one from 06 and also a newer 18 one. They engines haven't changed a lot in that time and are pretty easy to work on if you have some mechanical ability.

Here are a couple of threads with pictures.
