Hey guys, tell me about the 2000 EC200

I have a 99 EC200 and they are great bikes...

But, the cylinder is a problem area that you need to do some home work on...

The GasGas motor is not copy of a KTM 200. I am not sure on the over bore, not sure where you would find a piston for the over bore....and I don't think I would go the Eric Gore route.....We know that Weisco makes a piston, and there is also a Atric Cat tripple sled that uses the same or very close to the OEM spec piston.

If you can find a older part out and slap a 250 or 300 motor in that frame you could be money ahead. Those 45mm Zokes are way pass their prime and you would be better off with a newer set of WP's or Zokes if you can find them.

Something to think about.

Does anyone out there possibly have a used cylinder for this bike? Maybe I could locate one at a good price and avoid all the headaches of trying to get this one as it should be.

Its a tough call. I'm leaning towards doing it as I am basically getting this bike so a buddy of mine can ride it and I can have someone to ride with. With that being said I don't really want to save up for something that is all that if I'm not even riding it if you get my drift. He is also VERY good mechanically and can do whatever it needs to bike so I shouldn't have to worry about labor. In essence, I told him if I buy the bike can he get it up and running. He said yes. The cylinder is my main concern and curious if might could just get a used one to replace this one.

I posted this on the want to buy forum but no response. Does anyone have a cylinder for a 99 I oculd buy or trade for? Might be cheaper to pick up a used one than to fix this one.

So I went ahead and picked the bike up since I had already put down my deposit. Since the guy was off on the year he gave it to me for 350.00 total which was very fair. Nice guy. Rides Trials on a GG.

Again, I got this for a couple of reasons. Mainly, I have a bud who has no bike and honestly I want someone I can ride with so this will give him something to ride. It will also give me something else I can ride other than my EC300. But since it will be for someone else to ride a lot I didn't want to spend too much on it or save up for something that is particularly newer or nicer if you get my drift. He isn't picky at all. Just wants something decent to ride. I'm the picky one. LOL.

So with all that being said, I got the bike yesterday. Things look pretty good overall. Especially for the money spent. The engine is very clean, plastic (what is there) looks pretty good, forks seem good, brakes, tires, rims, rotors, bars all look good as far as can tell. Also has a nice skid plate which is an added bonus. I like the stock bars better than the Pro Tapers on my 300, to be honest.

However there are some things I need and I hope I can pick these items up either in a trade for some other bike items I have or maybe for some non-bike items I have to offer. Either that or at a reasonable cost as really trying to keep my overhead in this as low as possible.

There are some essentials I need to get it running and then a few finishing touches that aren't necessarily vital but would be nice.

Again, despite the topic header remember I found out later this is 1999 EC200 not a 2000 so need to make sure this stuff fits a 99.

The cylinder is still in question to be honest. Going to have someone work on it and see what happens but may need a used one of those or have this one redone but really hoping to avoid that 300.00 cost as that will take this from being a great deal to just being a good deal. It has one bad spot on it and it may can be smoothed out. Not sure yet. Again this is a bike that will be ridden probably once a week, not a competitive bike, just for fun so trying to keep costs down, if possible.

Essential needs:

piston, rings gasket set. Found set of rings and pistons on here but curious if anyone has some up for barter before I purchase them. Found no gaskets yet.

Non-essential needs:

The bike's plastic is yellow and though it is missing a rear fender I have one I removed from my 300 when changed it's plastic to red. So that should fit. So with the 300's old yellow plastic and the yellow plastic on the 200 I should have plenty here to pick and choose the best yellow pieces for the 200. However, the left side plate it messed up pretty bad and I have no extra of that. Also, there is no front plate. So if anyone has a headlight for a 99 200 or one that would fit that would be nice.

Cylinder. If I could find a pretty good used one at a good price I would try to get it.

At some point will probably need some brake pads.

The bike has wraparound handguards and the frames are fine but the actual left plastic handguard is messed up a bit so if anyone has any of those.

kickstand. LOL. Here we go again. Once again, someone removed the kickstand. I'm not holding out much hope for this one as I had to get a Ricochet for the 300.

If anyone else has any of these parts or any other parts for the 200 that you think I could use please help me out. I appreciate all your help, as usual.

Here you go on the piston...also try your local GasGas dealer or GoFasters.

As for rear fender, side number plates, seat cushion and seat cover - 97-99 KX125 / 250 plastic will work. Most likey you can get white or black.

I have a side stand, but not going to give it up....sorry, don't mean to tease you with that, but those that have them more than likely will hand onto them.

As for gaskets try - http://www.shopengineparts.com/prod...t&make=Gas+Gas&model=200+-+(98-Up)&type=model

I do not know of a cross over for the headlight, I'm sure a Acerbis or UFO headlight can be made to wrok.

This should get you started on your project bike.

Are you sure about the year? In '99 the KX's changed. 94-98 were basically the same, 99's were different. I used to be a Kawasaki mechanic is how I know.

Here are some cheap 98 side plates if that's the right year (shipping is high though):

98 black side panels

Thanks for the help guys. Keep the info coming and if anyone has any of these items for trade that would be great, too. Thanks again.
