Holeshot on Electric Bike at AMA HS

Thats great. Why not, as long as the technology naturally evolves and is not forced upon us like the cars. Can you do a 2 hr race on a charge or have to pit for a battery swap? What displacement class was that?

Where did he finish in class and o/a? Did his bike have any mods? I'm not ready to give up the petroleum but you can't ignore good results.

Charge is going to be the last thing to sort out I'm sure. It would be handy to have battery life for a 100 mile enduro.

Imagine never shifting gears!

And no sound, or at least none you can hear among other bikes. Sounds like an R/C car. You could ride that on the Police chief's front lawn and he wouldn't hear you. When its viable it will sell, but it has to hold its own without being propped up by a govt. subsidy.

I was in that race (super-senior B class)!

I hope people realize that this was a dead-engine start race and that's why the electric bike got the holeshot!

P.S. I managed 3rd place at the race, my best finish ever on the GG 300! I was in 2nd until the last corner when I let someone by because I was tired and had no idea I was doing so well.

I race BSSR as well. That guy is a good rider, would have done well on any bike. Yes, the electric motor is instant torque right off idle, and I imagine very easy to modulate. I wonder what the rest of the bike is like, as far as components, balance, handling, etc. as well as overall toughness and longevity.

420 chain? that giant rear sprocket + super long chain looks like a recipe for disaster.. they're definitely getting better, both battery life and suspension appears upgraded - still not there yet, but rapidly approaching raceability... they're getting close to being out of the trail bike class.. i think the modulation ability of electric power could be a huge advantage in woods.

Electrics are 100% torque off idle, true- but that was a dead engine start.
Everyone else is kicking or waiting on e button, while the e bike just goes...
He is a very good rider for sure! Very cool !!

Advantage at the start yes, but its a long race. From my experience in that class, success has a lot more to do with talent and what you do in the gym during the week than a few bike lengths at the start. Judging by how that guy rides, he would have won anyway on any bike. If everyone is really close in ability then yeah it has a start advantage. Focus has been on the electric motor but how does the rest of the bike perform? As new mfgs. find out its not easy to break into the market with established technology, much less new technology. This company is really working on two fronts, the electric motor drive and just learning how to build a competitive dirt bike in general.

I tell you what, the talent pool here gets deeper every day! Excellent. It does look a bit like a, well, bike bomb with all the batteries on the outside.:D Great job.

Yep, the battery mounting is one step below crude! We definitely don't take this bike out in the rain or mud either. If I had to do it all over again I would change almost everything we did, but considering this was deigned 6 years ago it's not too bad.

P.S. Here is a company local to me that is working on something high performance:
