How to mount flag for the sand dunes

Hello folks, I'm going to to Pismo Beach this weekend and need to mount a flag on my new to me 99' EC200. Whats the best way to mount the flag? On my other bikes I have made a bracket to bolt onto the swing arm. I'm just wondering if there is a easy/better way to do this. Anyone tried a store bought bracket that bolts onto the rear axle? What model works best?

Thanks, Graham :D

Pismo....Beach.... Hmmm, that sand will destroy a bike..... IMHO..I know lots of guys ride there, and they even ran a WORCS Events there, but I am not a fan, but that is my .02!

The salt air, salt water in the sand, is super, super fine and will make it's way into everything, bearings, AIRFILTER, Airbox, chain, swingarm linkage, just to name a few. Plan on tossing that airfilter when your done:eek:

A trip to that area would not be complete with out checking out this place.

Back in my younger years, when my family used to go to Pismo Beach. We used to drill a small hole in the fender the size of the flag stud, near the seat base. Put a big flat washer on the top of the fender and one bottom side, tighten it up, then trim the stud to ensure no contact w/ the rear time.

Ya the sand is hard on everything that it touches. I have been to Pismo many times and it always a lot of fun. My bikes seems to withstand the abuse pretty well. I always double make sure the air filter is well oiled and all the seals are properly greased. I DONT lube the chain and wash the bikes as soon as I get home.

That place rocks! I went there a couple years ago and had a blast! Lots of very challenging trails with big rocks and steep hills.

I think I'm going to fab up a flag mount in the next couple day for the Gasser and the RM85. I hope the rear axle has enough room for a piece of steel to fit under the lock nut.

Ok..then your an old hat at this stuff..never can tell.

Pozo is a blast, they had rain down there this past weekend. I think there is a trail at Pozo, called "7 Steps"...a narly up hill.....

Have fun! Be Safe...keep an eye out for the other guy!!!!

There's a cool plastic mount that bolts to the seat bolt and requires drilling a small hole in the fender. It's a sano mount. I'm not sure what brand it is. A local dealer has a bunch of them for $15 each.. If you're interested I could investigate further. You could probably call him and have them mailed to you. I know I have one around here somewhere as well. I'll never use it.

Well I made a flag mount today by drilling a couple holes in a short piece of angle iron. I took the lock nut off the rear axle, slid the steel over the axle and put the nut back on. I think it will work well and looks just the same as the ones for sale at the moto shops for $15.

I don't like the idea of mounting the flag on the rear fender because it can get in the way when moving around on the seat and if it broke off you have a nice sharp piece of fiberglass to stab you in the butt.

I know exactly what trail you are talking about. its crazy steep! I gave it a shot and made it about half way up then lost traction and fell over. I didnt try again because it was getting close to the end of the day and besides even if I did make it my buddy wouldnt stand a chance so we turned around.
