Hello,

Anyone have reccomendations for new boots? I have an entry level ARC pair that is trashed and ready for an upgrade. I would like to spend $300 or less, I have a 6 month old so I'll be lucky if I get out more than 3 more times this year. I have been looking at the AXO Prime seen here

http://www.axo.com/us/collection/dirt/footwear/prime-boots-2204

I found them online at MS for $240

Or thes sixsix one Comp boot at the $169 price point.

I am a total amatuer, riding at the local riding parks which consist of easy trails and my poor track riding. I Would like a boot with better shift feel than I have now. Anyone have any experiance with either of these pair? Or can reccomend anything else in the under $300 category? After a while looking all these boots start to look the same.

Thanks,
Sam

I would highly reccomend that you look at he Sidi Charger boot. They are slightly more then your budget. at 330-350 range but they are twice the boot of the AXO.

Good Luck

i know it has to do with $ in your pocket, but i am a firm believer that if you go a bit more expencive it works out cheaper in the long run (mainly based on how they last, but also the injuries that are avoided through better protection), therfore my recommendation is
Gaerne SG10
TCX 2.0/2.1
Sidi Crossfire

if it does boil down to $$ then there is also the gaerne g-react, based on the assumption that it will be made similarly to the more expencive gaernes and last long with less protection

Get the best boots you can afford.
Foot injuries suck.

Having said that, I recently enjoyed wearing out a pair of Alpinestars Tech3 boots which are their affordable entry level boots. I really liked the tidy outside dimensions of the wraparound sole, and wish I could find it on the better models with better protection.
These were provided for a long term test. And I probably would have shopped higher in their lineup. But I ended up really liking the feel of the boots. I broke a buckle or I'd get another season out of them.

I think Alpinestars is the industry standard for more reasons than brilliant marketing. JMHO.

Good boots

Gaerne sg 10
I've tried the cheap boot route. Its tough laying out the $$$$ i bought some gaerne sg10 s for last year they are tough comfortable and show almost no wear other than ground in swamp mud. You can find em online even ebay for around your 300 mark since gaerne now makes the sg12 the 10 is available cheaper
I'd spend the $$$ and youll be happier than buying boots you dont really want.

i would think in the $300 range you should be able to get decent protection.. i wear tech 10's, and may switch on the next pair of boots. mine have lasted a pretty long time, but i'd love to find a slightly less expensive boot that works as well.

I have the Gaerne Reacts and am more than happy with them, not certain on the price but definitely a reasonable price on a very good boot

Garne SG10 are great. They are a bit high volume, but very comfy and tuff.
The TCX 2.1s are just as good and are much lower foot volume. The thing I'm kind of out on the TCX is they have an inner foot bootie that you must take out and put on before you put the boot on your foot. I would probably lose it, but i really liked that boot when i tried it on.

I have had my SG10's for a year now and they are still in good condition. I ride almost every weekend.

Another +1 for Garne SG10s. Cheap soft boots = broken feet. Don't skimp, your feet are the closest thing to the ugly stuff flying by. I even put my 12 yr old in a used pair of SIDI Crossfires rather than a new cheap pair.

The alpinestar tech 7's are in the $300 range. I can't compare them with other boots ,but I've had mine about three years so far and still look good.

i have bought several pairs of used boots because i absolutely hate breaking in a new pair of boots. i bet with a little searching that you can find a pair of high end boots that have very little time on them that is within your price range. all of the upper end boots offer the protection and comfort that you need. sg10, crossfires and tech 10's are all very good.

i would much rather have a slightly used pair of high end boots that a new pair of lesser boots.

Used boots

I bought mine used too but because thats how i could afford them .They were like new, not broken in yet but thats a good idea. Ebay around 200 i think it was

My last pair of boots were brand new tech 8's. They lasted one season and the soles had the cookie and the buckles (half of them) would not close which I guess is very common in the alpinestars line. The gaernes have held up flawlessly and all the buckles are perfect after 2 years of heavy abuse.

Been wearing the SG10s for a few years, great boot with pretty good protection...and then the left one started leaking :)

I decided to try the Sidi SRS Crossfires this time around, very comfortable. A little thicker on top so there is less feel on up-shifts or looking for neutral. But a buddy had a bad cut from a branch hitting the top of his boot, so i asked myself if I could afford the same injury. he was out as long as I have been with rotator cuff surgery. I got a little discount from my local KTM shop, so you may try asking around. there is apparently only one importer, so everyone pays basically the same.

Gaerne SG10 hands down for me.
No foot or leg injury's over 2 seasons. They wear very good, couldn't be happier. I ride and compete allot and am now just looking to replace these with another pair SG10's. Wear is phenomenal. Soles, carcass, and buckles no issues. Brake and shift lever feel is good also, quite comfortable.

Ive tried allot of other boots over the years and have had many foot and toe injury's and one broken lower leg all in other brands. We have allot of stumps and rocks here in Washington along our single track. Choose how you want to pay, up front, or later.
Pay up front, buy a quality boot. Or pay later, get a cheap boot, and a visit to the doctor.
