i can't get n1 series needles to work in jd jetting. is there an n3/noz or other needle with similar specs (i.e. half a clip either way?) ... that shows up in jd jetting chart?

or if someone knows how to put n1 series needles in chart. i've tried n1-e-g, n-1e-g, and n-1-eg.

my 07 300 has this jetting:

172 main
n1eg #2
#7 slide
40 pilot
1 turn out

and it runs nice at 65 degrees or so. i'm upping the pilot one size for 45 degrees... and so i can get a/s into range. it idles nice, but it has a tendency to hang/slow return to idle. so 1 pilot size richer 'should' do the trick... i hope..

Depending upon what version JD chart you have, the N1EG series is listed as N 1 EG1 in the chart.

I have an NOZH clip 1 in my 300, 42 pilot, 165 main. a/s 1 1/2 out, #7. The bike idles fine, and is steady and repeatable each time. The jetting helped out, but it really idled good after doing the base gasket mods. (Thanks Stainless!) The NOZx series is 1/2 clip leaner than the N1Ex series. Clip 2 burbles a little on my bike, clip 1 runs clean.

Before the gasket shuffling I tried a N3EH/42 combo and the bike ran good but used more fuel than the NOZH.

Why the H diameter? I personally think they run cleaner with a richer/larger# pilot and leaner/fatter needle, not a leaner pilot and richer needle. Thats why folks with the CCK combo complain that the bike eats gas like a 73 Cadillac 500.

thanks for the info, i've not really had a chance to do anything to this bike, and i'm gonna race it tomorrow, so i've been busy changing pipe/silencer/pv cover/damper/bar riser/chain/sprockets/tires/skid plate/etc.

no time to do base gasket mod (mine has 2 or 3 .3/.5 gaskets!! which is just obnoxious) - i will fix this next week! haven't checked squish, but i'm sure its just ridiculous.

we have a big cold snap today/tomorrow, so i wanted to not be extremely lean.

N-O-Zx is half a clip richer than N-1-Ex I think. Same tapers. I just enyer NOZF#0.5 for N1EF#1

Isn't it funny that Scotty's recommends the N1EF-1? That is the stock 300 needle with the old screw on cap Keihin.

Which Scotty?? My bike shipped with a 40 N1EF#1 175 ..The bike ran well but loaded up on the bottom end in the tight stuff.. spooged... smoked.. and drank fuel like it was going out of fashion.

I guess the original "Scotty's" is what I am referring to. N1EF was not very good in my bike either, North of the equator! :D

According to the JD chart I have the NOZx is 1/2 clip leaner than the N1Ex series. I went with the NOZH because I liked the delivery of the N1Ex series but not the richness of the "F" diameter at idle and at 1/8th throttle.

I still am at clip 1 on the NOZH, but at 1/2 clip leaner vs. the N1E and two steps thicker diameter (H) with the 42 pilot it is magic!!

so, i'm at

175 main
n1eg #2
#7 slide
42 pilot
1 turn out

(at 65 degrees 172 main and 40 pilot was pretty nice) i upped main and pilot 1 step - it was cold - like 40 degrees today.

i still get hanging idle - maybe 2500rpm , i can clutch it to make it come down. it doesn't race, so i don't think it's an airleak. and it's not doing it all the time. i turned the airscrew in 1/2 turn after the first lap, and it got a little better, so i'm thinking the pilot is still too lean. is the n1eg a lean needle at idle (2.7 or thicker?)

should i go another step up on the pilot (to a 45), or raise the needle 1 step? any ideas? i didn't fuel stop on a 2 hour mud fest, and i didn't hit reserve - so i'm guessing it's still lean...and i had some minor overheating on some really muddy sections. all these point to lean all over i would assume..

CCK really a fuel burner? :-s
i got somewhere that this needle made it run super good in my conditions...
