my 2000 xc300 has only a small dim headlight, it gains brightness as the engine revs which is no surprise since there is no battery, but lately ive been feeling the need to have a bright headlight and atleast a tail marker light. what are my options for beefing up the electric power output?

2k2? Swap in a 2k3, reg/rec, then you could prolly use a decent dual sport light. I have a 2k3 and it powers a Trailtech X2 just fine.

How much more power are you looking for? Another option may be to reduce your existing electric load. I have a 2000 XC300 with the 35W 2k2 ignition and I found that you can run the stock headlight just fine if you change the tail / brake light to an LED style. LEDs use much less power than the traditional incandescent bulb. With the incandescent tail light/ brake light bulb, the headlight would pretty much go OFF every time I hit the brakes. The inrush current of tungsten incandescent bulbs is roughly 10x normal operating current until the filiment gets hot. It would take a few seconds for all of the lights to come back on every time I hit the brakes.

I actually have no brake light, it was removed by the previous owner.... I am looking to get a led style brake/tail light. there has been some modification done to the wires going up to the headlights and i have some extra wires and such, so im gonna go ham with a voltage tester one day and see which wires have more voltage and such...

You may have more luck finding one from a part out. Don't forget the ones from Orange bikes will work.
