NEW! GasGas EC250 4-stroke w/Yamaha Engine!

Wow, here's a concept, what if GG just has Yamaha handle not just the 4T powerplants for GG, but let them handle all of the tricky issues that has escaped GG management for the past decade and outsource their dealer network, parts inventory, marketing and warranty claims. It is so sad to watch GG destroy the momentum they had in the US market in the early 2000's and now talk of a comeback in the face of the worst financial climate since 1981-2. I was a huge GG supporter back in 2001-5, but after watching GGNA in Tampa foul up everything that a distributor is supposed to do, I'm just an interested bystander. It's like opening my monthly investment statements, I just can't bear to watch.

Oh, and I have a Yamaha WR450 in my garage and a GG 300, and my brother has a WR250F so I'd like to know how many of you that have posted on this thread have ridden both. My opinion? If you revalve the suspensions on the Yamahas - look out, they are really good, but they are still four strokes. In the right terrain, they are surprisingly fast and easy to ride.

Should Yamaha ever had made the decision to put a six speed tranny in their YZ250 two-stroke, it would have sounded the death nell for the current GG two strokes. Awesome power, easy to work on, tons of parts and aftermarket support and light weight, the YZ250 two stroke is a formidable platform.
 
Agreed on the new YZ 250 2t. An awesome bike. What a chassis, and quite frankly, it doesn't need a six speed. It does need.... an 18 inch rear wheel, lighting coil, suspension revalve, and kickstand.
 
GasGas should focus their limited resources on a smaller number of bikes, not continue to dilute resources on more models, which will result in nothing more than a broader line of increasingly mediocre products.

I think they could do better by taking the energy and cash they're putting into the 250 4t and instead making their 200, 250 and 300 2ts the absolute best in class. They have a great start with the current models but after three years of no noticeable changes they're letting KTM and others pull ahead.

What GasGas is doing has been tried thousands of times before in businesses of every size, type and industry, usuallly with the same poor results.
 
GasGas Hellas has just announced the price and specifications for the 2010 ec250!!!:

-8650€ ( the price for a wr250f in greece is 9150€!!!!!)

-free engine kit that increases the engine to 300cc

-special sachs shock

- marzocchi 45mm upside down

- keihin carburator

- new frame

:)
 
So, 600 Euro less than a WR250F in Greece, plus a free 300 big bore kit?

That sounds sweet for you guys! I imagine that price is so attractive due to a high tariff on the Yamaha.

Skidad, i was talking to the GasGas supplier in NZ, hes a real good guy and does me demon prices on anything i buy from him. and he said that electric start is a definate for the 2010 gg300s, and they already have a prototype complete. i didnt enquire more, we were just talking about stuff and comparing the gasgas with the ktm and husqvarna, he sells all 3 of them, and just said that the gasser gets e-start for next year.
dont have any information apart from his word, but i dont see why he would lie, we wernt interested in buying one or anything

Now tha't a dealership I could spend WAY WAY to much time and money in with those 3 brands:eek::D

Thanks for the info, I'm very interested to see this e-start 300 and how they go about doing it. Hopefully better than the KTM which has had more than it's share of teething problems. 2010's are supposed to be improved though.

i reckon, he also sells Husabergs, and the road bike ktms, RC8 etc. its not unusual to spend an hour in there talking and admireing the collection of bikes, most new ktms, both new husabergs, a few of the six days and R model gasgas' a few husqvarnas, etc, you get the idea

If he gets Beta and Sherco he'll really have the Euro dirt bike field covered....oh TM as well.

See if he can get his hands on ANY pictures of the new 250 thumper or 300 e-start bikes.
