New to me Gas Gas!!!

So.... bought a 2003 EC250 Racing from a member here. MY MC250 conversion to woods machine (Old Thread Link) had become more maintenance and time than it deserved (kick starter skipping, leaky crankshaft seal, frozen bolts on engine everywhere). Combine that with all the $$ I was going to spend to get lighting to work properly, it just wasn't worth it anymore. I will be selling off those parts as I get them off the bike and have the time to take pictures.

Eventual goal is to get it about where the MC was relative to power (suspension is being swapped over directly from the MC) and also get the bike lighted properly for NH reg (Hi/Low front with tail/brake rear).

So I am currently swapping all my parts that I like to the new machine. This thread is a place to track progress and link to other threads where I try to resolve issues I come upon. First new other thread will be "what the hell are all these extra wires for?"

Initial Questions-
-Is the Messico a good pipe? Is it a better pipe than the FMF Fatty/Gnarly?
-The bike has a 2k3. I am assuming I am still going to want to swap my flywheel weight over? (I ride tight gnarly woods)

Pics of bikes in process of conversion coming...

Any answers to these questions?

Also a new item that popped up when switching various over stuff tonight. The scotts pivot mount had pushed it's way up higher than where it belonged. On the way it appears to have moved what appears to be a rubber gasket sealing the top of the headgasket. It now appears to be loose as a goose. Is this a common part? Is there a better replacement than a flat rubber seal?

I can't give any FHE on the Messico, but what I've read here is it is a good pipe power delivery wise but thin metal so dents and bends easily.

I don't think you'd need the flywheel weight with a 2k3. I believe the 2k3 flywheel is heavier than 2k2 + 14oz. weight or at least the mass of the 2k3 is located further out from the shaft so the effect is greater.

I run a 12oz. flywheel weight on my MC 250 with a 2k2 and have no problems stalling in tight stuff.

Don't know nuffin' about Scotts dampers...

2K3 flywheel is only 1.25oz heavier than the 2K2 but yeah, further from center so greater effect.

Interesting. I have an 8oz, so I guess I will just hold off until my first real ride and see what she feels like.

I have used Messico on two bikes. It had great delivery. I never damaged either one of them............. Don't ask me how. I'm running a Doma right now, and it's absolutely great. I would use whatever you have on hand rather than buying something though, I've never noticed a big enough difference to matter.

-Pipe (prolly try Messico out for a while till I smash it ahaha)

It took me _one_ ride at CATRA to put a nice dent into my Messico pipe. Took a second ride to smash in the side of it on a log.

I think they really do make those pipes out of old beer cans. The FMF Gnarly has a much harder hit when it gets onto the pipe, and it signs off earlier. But with the PV cover, it's pretty manageable. And I bet it would be even more manageable on your 250 vs. my 200. I put a pipe guard onto my FMF pipe after putting a small dent in the bottom of it, but the hit that caused that dent would have completely caved in the Messico.

Bike is 99% together and feels pretty awesome!!!

Still need skid plate and decent chain guide but went for a good test ride today and got the jetting settled, she rips!

Somewher I read that the Gnarly is original pipe on Gasser. Is this true?
How much there is difference between Gnarly and original pipe?

Where have you ordered different power valve springs in Europe? Which is good for MX and which for low-speed enduro with tight turns?
I have a 2003 250 EC.

The Gnarly was original on SOME models. My XC came with the Gnarly, my kids EC came with the GG branded pipe. The Gnarly really wakes the bike up at lower rpm. My kid liked the GG pipe because it was a milder transition but he has the 2K3 flywheel vs my 2K2. The kid ended up smashing his GG pipe and now has the Gnarly. Definately made it peppier.

I think I might switch to the Gnarly I have for this reason. The Messico feels a little flat on the bottom comparatively.

I smashed the Fatty that came on my bike and replaced it with the Gnarly. I love the Gnarly! Power delivery feels the same, but my bike runs much quieter (to the ear at least).

Its the SAME PIPE design, made with thicker 18ga steel.

If you guys with '03/'04 250s think that the the low end is a bit flat (Cruiser and I did on our '03s) try:

VForce for '05+
CDI from older XC,MC 250 or 200
RBD Head mod

Is the VForce bolt-on or does it need modification to work? My kids bike is a little anemic on the bottom. He likes it now but it won't be long before he's looking for more.

Is the Vforce a reed or a reed cage?

I have the MC's CDI, so I could always try that.
