OK, I'm confused.

Why does ggor.com call my bike an XC 300, and the stickers say EC 300? No biggie. Just wonderin'.

The model is an EC(endurocross), thats what it is made as at the factory.
The name XC is what they are called in the states when they have no lights, signals or a computer, its to get around some red tape, I think.

Here is some history on GG bikes in the US:
http://www.gasgasrider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6427

The US specific bikes have been labeled various things over the years (XC, DE, EC). The current XC is like noobi describes. I believe the 2011 XC bikes still have the heavier ignition (2K-3) of the standard EC bike. If you bought a lighting kit, it would be plug-n-play.

Here is discussion on the 2K-3 (heavier ignition) vs. 2K-2 (lighter ignition). If you look at how the wire exits the ignition cover, then you will know which type that you have.

Thanks for the clarification guys. I'm a GG newbie so I'll be asking plenty of already-answered, stupid questions. :D

Keeping in mind that the output is AC. That could be different on the e-start models.

Ut Oh

Disclaimer: I am blonde.

Now I am confused as well.

So is there currently a EC and a XC available in the states (similar to a XC/XCW)?

No our EC's are the rest of the worlds XC. We don't get the blinkers, horn, tail light etc. So look at it as an XC that's called an EC over here (USA/NA). They don't send XC's over here they are EC's without street legal parts if that makes sence. BTW I am new to GG too and I asked the same questions before my first purchase a few months ago. So no we don't get an EC and an XC only the EC, Six Days, and Race versions. Oh.... we also get the Nambotin!

My 2011 XC 250 has the lighter stator exiting at the front.....hmmm

what about you guys Krieg and John ???

Thats interesting. I personally prefer the 250 with the lighter ignition and the 300 with the heavier one.

I pulled my 250 out of the crate and took it to EE the next day. I didnt even look to see what ignition I have.

To each his own...that's exactly opposite of me.:D
I wanted the heavier fly wheel. The XC acts a lot more like a Trials bike down low and is more predictable. I don't miss the aggressive pull of my WR125 coming onto the power band.
Just that smooooth response the 300 offers.

It's really very simple....
When I was talking to the dude at the EPA, he looked on line at the factory's website and saw that the ECs had turn signals and a tail light. He immediately thought we were trying to bring those bikes into the country. I told him that we were bringing in XCs, not ECs. He wanted to know what the difference was. I explained that XC's were bikes that were not street legal anywhere and that satisfied him. I did not trouble the factory to make specific graphics for us that have XC on them but I intend to ask for XC graphics next year.
The funny part about all of this was that it did not matter what you called them. What mattered was what components were on the bike. Unfortunately, the people who deal with these issues aren't motorcycle guys and can't always tell the difference.
I felt like the EPA guy worked on the theory that everyone was guilty until proven innocent. I finally hired a compliance company to deal with him because I could tell that it was only a matter of time until the redneck in me came out and I nuked, not burned, a bridge with him! :)

Being kind of new to GG, I had asked Mark and Steve at GF a million questions about the bikes in the past, especially the differences in the standard, 6D and Race versions. There were a lot of differences in the past on the DEs and XC's and EC's, etc. They knew they history but did not know what was going to happen with the 11 models. I emailed the R&D manager and he told me that in 2011 all of the 250s and 300s have exactly the same engine (including the carb, ignition/flywheel, reeds) on all of the models, including the Nambotin. He also told me that after a lot of testing, Nambotin preferred the stock 300 motor. (If that's not true, he told it....I'm just repeating it! :)) That doesn't mean that the 300 and 250 motors are the same. It means that all four 250s have the same components and all five 300s have the same components. By the way...I plan to drop one of these models next year. Actually, that's not exactly true. I am thinking of asking the factory to combine the 6D and Race models into one bike.
What do you guys think about that? Don't answer that.... I'll start another thread on this one!

Another funny story about that guy....He asked me what the name of our company was. I told him it was 4304 Distributing doing business as Gas Gas Offroad US. He says "4304 Distributing? That's a stupid name for a motorcycle company!" There is a story behind that name. Our parent's had the same phone number, last four digits 4304, for almost 60 years. We named our copmany 4304 Distributing as a sort of tribute to them so, honestly, it kind of pissed me off that he would say that. So I said to him "It's our company. Can't we name it what we want?" He goes "Yeah I guess you can." Holy cow! Who is he to criticize our company name? I don't do well with people with that kind of personality. I called a friend at KTM and asked him how he workd with that guy. He says "Clay....you need to use a compliance company to deal with this guy. I know you and I know (name witheld) and you two will not get along!" I took his advice!

Thanks for the info everyone. Now, to add to my confusion, my XC 300 Electric Start has an Olihns Shock and Marzocchi forks (not sure if they're 48's or 45's). Anyway, the GG Spain site shows Sachs forks and shock. Were the US-spec bikes customized to include the different components?

I guess I should shut up. So many questions from this GG Newbitron. Sorry. ;)

All US Spec bikes except for the first small container are coming with 45mm Zokes and Ohlins shocks.

Apparently the UK Dist is getting his "CC" models delivered the exact same way that the US is getting their bikes.
