P3/Gnarly fit

I recently purchased a like new Gnarly and a (still in the bag) P3 protector from a member. This thing fits horribly. It has a big gap all across the cross tube part of the pipe. Is there something I'm missing here short of beating with a rubber mallet. I've never had this problem with P3 or other brands.

btw it is in fact the correct pipe and protector since both products have part number/fitment stamped on them.

Don't use a hammer.
I am 99.9% sure that the P3 guard you have have is for OEM pipe. The Gnarly pipe is a different size then OEM.
So that being said the P3 guard you have will not work on the Gnarly.

If you have OEM - try it on it. That will answer your question.

Thanks Stu. Says Gnarly on it. But, now that you mention it. Is written on it. The model year and bike is stamped. I have OEM as well. Will try when I get home.

Well. maybe it is then for the Gnarly.
I have the p3 guard and when I got my Gnarly it would not fit, even if I was to take a hammer to it.
That is why I got the AL Flatland Racing one as it can me formed to the pipe.
You just might have a P3 for a Gnarly.
My P3 was a very tight fit and needed a little muscle to get it on the OEM pipe.

Curious what you ever found out?

I have been talking with new owner. One theory was that it was actually for an OEM. However, i just tried on a stock pipe and no way. Sent them pics of model stamp. Waiting to hear back.

not sure what i could have done differently.

P3 web site says
P3 Pipe Guard GasGas 250/300 FMF 11-14
25095
??

pakaging says 2007- 2011. Pipe has 2007-2011. How did i make a mistake. Pipe and guard were ordered for a 2011.

Well I can't remember how fmf changed the pipes with gas gas but I know its different.

Just like now within the last few months they made the 11_14 pipes fit the older bikes which they never did before. And are using the old part number so that really screwes stuff up. And if you ask them about it they either deny it or act like they have no clue.

So its beginning to be a crap shoot in what people have now and what they need.
