P3 i.e. Pirie Performance Products = not good

You can paint the CF all you want, but take it off often and check its integrity first.

Yeah, the Moose BIY(bend it yourself) is as good a dent protector, I have one on both my wife's and son's bikes. I was thinking of tying one of these to a Scorpion skid plate for added strength.

I found the aluminum Moose BIY guard very noisy. I was glad to replace it, but I must say I don't think the Eline saved my pipe very much.

The trick is to bend it so it fits as close as possible, very tedious, and clamp it very tight. If I were to do this again I would line the contact area with some 1/4" thk. silicone rubber strips, a little cusion. This would be neccessary if it was to be hard mounted to the skid plate for support. I hope someone figures out if a Hyde for an '11 will fit a '12 before I get my bike, April is late enough and I'd like to have all the stuff figured out to bolt on and ride, not wait for UPS for days.

Glenn,
I must be reading your mind, During my travels yesterday this was what was going through my mind.

I need to source a sutable material and adhesive and Give it a try.

The issue of running no guard is the very real possibility of Tge pipe getting easly damage and stopping your ride very early. Years ago I rode my 98 Ktm 300 without one as I had one on order. A stick came up from the front tire and ripped a gaping hole in the pipe. This was 10 minutes into a ride. We traveled 3 hrs by truck and I just say at the truck for 8 hrs. Would have really sucked had I been chasing points in a race and had this happen. One good fall or trail debris or a close call with a stump can kill a pipe a good guard can keep you going till the end of the day. cheap ins vs a lost day due to pipe damage. I don't think I could ride one day without killing a uncovered pipe,, and possibly beyond repair. I have killed many guards already.

Ed,

Mcmaster.com is your friend and source for all kinds of hardware for pet projects. Look for "silicone rubber strips or bars". Basically a very thick high temp silicone tape with adhesive backing sold by the foot. I've used this in various thicknesses for all kinds of things, including replacing the rubber pipe spacers on the Hyde. Most of the time the adhesive works fine. Sometimes for tough apps or materials I used a coating of grip glue first and let it dry partially first. For the alloy guard you would have to bend it in a way to leave space for rubber, then apply it.

my biy doesn't rattle, but i spent a lot of time making it fit just right. and those clamps are TIGHT. haven't had to play with it at all once i installed it. the pipe doesn't get cleaned up with scothbrite due to the fact that i know what a pain it is to get them back on and fit exactly the way you want with no rattles. i had a custom cf pipe guard, and it just had high temp silicone on the back of it...

I did that once, bought a big caulk tube size high temp RTV and just glued it on the pipe. Still got crap behind it and rusted the pipe. CF looks good but there can be horrors underneath. My alloy guards don't rattle either, but I too spent a lot of time getting them right.

One thing very noticable about the Hyde polymer is that it does not "bite" into obstacles on glancing blows, but slides off. The scrapes and scars on the pipe guard are incredible and yet the pipe is undamaged. This is probably true with CF but to a much lesser extent.

I think maybe the title to this thread should now be changed since you have received your guard and are satisfied with the product. It states on their website that one should expect 4-6 weeks for delivery. I realize yours took 2 weeks longer than that, but a little extra time for a superior product seems to me is a good trade. Ultimately its your choice.

I wonder how long it would have taken if i did not put posts on here and thumpertalk. What a coincidence two days before my post i call P3 and leave a message, no call back, no email return. Then i post, and then gee out of the blue i get a call, "your pipe guard is on the way". I wonder how long they would have put me off. You are saying I should not complain, i disagree, i am the customer, i payed in advance, you owe it to me to get my purchase to me asap. weasel disclaimers don't do for me. That said i do like the guard.

You have the right to your opinion, as P3's ability to deliver a good product in a timely manner is lacking. Credit cards and Paypal should be charged the day the product ships, not the day ordered... but all vendors seem to do this, not just P3. Your posts made no difference though, trust me I know. If you posted 2 weeks sooner, it would have still come the same day.
