Photobucket Fiasco

I just saw the ransom request by Photobucket and the subsequent blocking of all photos on the years of threads posted here on the forum. Does anybody have a suggestion on a 3rd party hosting site for the photos?

Yeah I'm going to download all mine. I'll probably just host them myself.

I found that the download album feature wasn't working. Convenient yes!!

The images are still hosted at the bucket for now. Right clicking on their advert and opening in a new tab will show the image.

I would consider a web host myself as the best option too. I probably won't though. Holding tight and seeing what comes of it all.

Would be a shame for all the good threads we've done to go to waste

Edit.. Oh no! Now they've taken the hyperlink out of their replacement images. Doesn't work anymore. Niceeee one Photobuckets.

What if we all chipped in for a GG only hosting site? Seems to be enough geeks on here to sort out the logistics. Or at least help us find a "third party supporting" hosting site?

Jeff already has the server running to host this site. I'm not sure how much storage space he has on it. The Forum platform allows for a certain amount of images to be uploaded too, but it generally isn't a lot.

Paying a small subscription for a private host is probably the best option. Thinking about it, most internet service providers would give you a certain allocation of webspace along with the account. Not sure if this still happens or not.

ADVRider is going insane right now. Nearly every build thread, tutorial, and diagnostics walkthrough is in pieces. It's beyond frustrating. I'm wondering how long before someone starts a class action lawsuit on this. I'll bet it is winnable.

Smugmug is another great hosting site. It's privately owned by a motorcycle fanatic. No real great reason to use it over any of the other options. But if I had to choose to give my money to a corporation or to a private motorcycle guy I won't have to think twice.

Thanks for the suggestions! I downloaded all my photos from photobucket last night. Its a shame that a lot of great threads on some nice sites have been wiped out. I will look at the suggestions above to find a solution and repost my threads.

This was just posted on ADVRider. Might be worth looking into.

A good citizen of the internet wrote a web-based tool to copy all of your photo bucket images to Amazon S3 and update your forum posts to use them from there.

Wow...had no idea. That's really lame :mad::mad:

For anyone interested, I've been using www.pbase.com for close to 10 years now. I web-process all our images to reduce file size before uploading; costs us around $100/year to host ~4Gb of images (just checked and we have 72,000+ images in various galleries).

It's not the most elegant solution out there, but it's been reliable and all of our out-of-state family likes it as they can see what we've been up to.

Glad to see someone providing a workaround for images hosted there.

It's over

Sorry everyone, Photobucket has blocked this host from fetching images. Converted images will continue working, but no new images can be converted from here.

If you'd like to migrate away from Photobucket you can download your albums and bring them elsewhere.

I just bought a 500 gig external hard drive to upload all my photos on for now on and will download the ones I have on Photobucket as well. If I cant download them I will take a screen shot of my photo.

If you can't download them: right click the image -> save image as, would a lot easier option than screen shots.

What a load of BS. I downloaded my albums today too. I had a complete engine tear down sticky. Not sure if it is worth editing the entire thread or starting a new one.

Looking for a good source to host if anyone found one that is pretty good...
