Post your truck/tow rig/rv

Nice starcraft. If I find one of those or a jayco baja I'm gonna snatch it up. Very cool campers. I actually work at a jayco dealer and can get starcraft oem parts for a pretty nice discount, let me know if you ever need anything.

Thanks. I've had that camper for four years and have never seen another one. My wife found it at a dealer out on Long Island, NY. Everywhere I go it gets attention, I could have sold it ten times over. Its bigger than the Jaco I looked at during an RV show, only saw one of those on the road as well.

Disregard the KTM on the left (there's always one:rolleyes: )

Great forum y'all got here

Here's my main tow rig, a slightly modified '03 awd Astro van.

I lifted the front 3" and the rear 4" so I could go from a stock 27" tire to a 31". Installed 4:10 gears with a Detroit Locker in the rear (open diff in front still). Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks with indash remote and onboard air compressor. Swapped the awd single speed transfer case for a NP233c electronic shift 2spd 4x4 t case so I have low range now (and actually use it a lot). Had a pop top installed with a sleeping loft, and bought a used awning off my buddy.

It gets me in and out of the mountains pretty well. Currently finishing up a hitch mounted bike tray to carry the bike as a dingy on the back of the van on overlanding trips. Thats the main reason I went with a plated bike (450 fse)

At Skagit River Brewery after riding Walker Valley.

As seen in July issue of Petersen's 4Wheel & Offroad "Bug-out Mobiles" article about 4x4 camper vans.

Sideshowbob and Mountain Thumper, how do your Subarus do while towing? I have an Impreza 2.5i and am thinking about getting a tow hitch installed so I don't have to bother the folks to use their Tundra. Do you guy have the automatic or manual transmission? I'm curious as how the manual would hold up to towing 2 bikes plus gear. As I have never towed using a manual, do you have any tips to make things easier and so I don't smoke the clutch the first time out? Thanks

You should be fine. As long as you keep the trailer weight down and the tongue weight reasonable its a perfectly capable tow vehicle as noted above. Also make sure your brakes have freshish fluid and decent pads.

Is your 2.5i a sedan? It's much easier to wire the wagons for the lights.

My car tows that trailer so well that I sometimes wonder what the cornering and top speed capabilities of the tires on the trailer are. I have slid the trailer and the car around a couple corners in the gravel and it gets hectic quick!

I have pushed it pretty hard with just a little weight (non-bike) on the trailer. Like you said, it gets scary quick

Towed with my setup about 250 miles in the past week, worked like a charm!

Pimping Van!

PS- very jealous everytime I see a Hilux diesel. I would buy one in a second if they brought them to the US as a Tacoma Diesel.

There are Tacoma diesels in the US. They use em in the underground mines. Gettin your hands on one and getting it registered might be a different story.

Time for me to jump into this game. Up till this past
weekend. I did not have a picture of my tow rig
and bikes worth posting.
Just got back from a 4 day ride in Ca. Sequoia National
Forest at a place near Kennedy Meadows.
This was taken at the Red Rocks Canyon State Park along
Hwy 14.

It is a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 with a '92 Lance Camper. Towing
a 12' Carson trailer with a few customizations.
The bikes are both 2002 GasGas, an EC300 and a 280 Pampera.
Another angle on the bikes and trailer.

Thanks for starting this thread.

Here it is loaded with my old 2001 XC250. Unforunately, I don't have a pic with my 2007 EC250.

I'm guessing by the time the mines are finished with them they are probably pretty used up. Just don't understand why we don't get the good stuff. FJ40's are still produced all over the world, but not imported here. I would love to get my hands on a diesel Tacoma. Oh well.

Here is the Gas Gas sport. You probably have seen it on here before. The REVERUP license plate in my sig is on my 3 rail trailer I tow behind.

Look a bit different between countries  maybe.

Yep, Tacoma and Hilux are different vehicles. The Tacoma is just an Americanised Hilux though, but compared to most of our Aussie style utes, the American stuff is a little bigger, like Dodge Rams and Ford F series utes compared to Toyota Hilux's and Nissan Navara's

The "Tacoma" is a North American truck assembled here in the USA, so I would think its different than the Austrailia models. The "Hilux" model name has been around for ages, I had a '75 Hilux here in the US. I remember back in '94 when I was on Moen Island in Truk Lagoon (Micronesia, South Pacific) shipwreck diving, the most common truck was a full crew cab Toyota Hilux. I thought that was so cool. It took a long time to get here.

Matt, nice truck, I think a crew cab Tacoma is in my future.
