R&B designs, NO MORE gas gas mods?

I decided to pull my Christini 300 AWD apart solely to send my head and carb to R&B to have them modded. Nothing wrong with the bike. 200 miles on a 2015 engine.
I did some emailing back and fourth with Ron setting everything up.
Did all the squish test. got everything boxed up and ready to ship.
Unfortunately Ron tells me they are going on vacation and will not be back to the shop till April 20th.
That's fair enough. Everyone needs a vacation.
So a few days later I get an email out of the blue informing me that they will no longer be doing ANY Gas Gas mods.:mad:
When I asked why and if I could still get the carb modified I was not given a clear answer and was told I would not get an answer till they got back from vacation.
WTF???
 
I looked on there web site the other day thinking about a carb mod and I seen Gasgas is no longer mentioned on his web site. That stinks for all the guys wanting a head and or a carb mod. If RB is not going to do Gasgas anymore it looks like a good time to start a head mod thread. There are other companys like Eric Gore, RK Tek, Dicksracing. Most head mods its a matter of getting the correct Maximum Squish velocity (MSV) & Squish gap width/height and known what CC volume to put it at for what fuel you want to run. If you know some one with a lathe spend the $20-$25 and buy the Torqsoft squish velocity program and machine it your self.
 
Motopshyco- I've searched for someone to mod my head and all I ever got was blank confused faces looking back at me, bit of a long story but I basically have an s3 head on at the min not that pleased with it and can get some pinging at high rpm if I'm on the road and would like to get the standard head to the correct squish and volume

Send me a pm mate. Problem with the s3 heads seems to be that they lower the whole thing, so volume is taken away from the combustion chamber and squish, whereas it should be taken away from squish and added to combustion chamber.
 
I also just pulled me head this weekend to send to Ron and got the same response. Bummer as I live close enough to just drop it off myself. Hoping to find someone else to do this (and hopefully just as good).
 
Wow, was I really such a pain in his butt that he quit GG? I still haven't installed my RB modded head that I had him cut last year. I guess it's a good thing I didn't procrastinate that part any longer than I did!
 
Eric has some books out worth a read seemed like a great guy online back near turn of the century. Glad to hear he's still going.
 
And I have seen eric gorr destroy a cylinder and the power valves that went with it... .

Another member here had a very bad experience a few years back...

Buyer beware..

Some have said good things of him but I have seen some horrid work... And it was very,very bad...

I didn't want to be the one who raised this as i have never had any dealing with him, but have seen some negative posts on the internet over the years so approach with caution.

It seems a bit strange from a business point of view to drop a brand when i assume all the hard work has already been done. he has the knowledge and has done the calcs and measurements so surely it is as much work to do a gg squish head mod as it is to any other brand of bike, or am i missing something on the technical aspect of this?

Perhaps tomorrow will show it to be incorrect?

I am not trying to defend Eric in anyway but every engine builder that builds a lot of engines is going to have a screw up every once in a while. I am sure Eric has guys working for him and if they make a mistake and dont say anything some thing bad is going to happen. Eric makes a living building engines and if he built Junk he would not be in business any more.

I personally have seen screw up's from Hooper racing who builds race snowmobile engines. I had a buddy last year who's piston hit the head because the bore diameter of the head was 2mm less than the actual bore. He sent the heads back to him to be re cut and came back the same with 2mm less diameter than the bore. :eek: The third time was the charm and he got it right.

Mistakes get made even by the pro's. Any time you have engine work done pay attention to what they did at assemble to make sure they did not make a mistake. Any reputable shop will stand behind there work.

It went beyond reasonable. Way beyond.

In the case that I am aware of, it took more than a reasonable amount of effort to get Eric Gorr to stand behind his work. e.g. he wouldn't pick up the phone until block caller id was used when calling. To a reasonable person, it would appear that he wasn't picking up the phone because he didn't want to deal with it or stand behind his work.

A member here sent Eric Gorr a motor for rebuild a few years back. When it wasn't turned around in a timely manner - I don't think it is an understatement to say that this customer was berated and denigrated by Eric Gorr. This is usually not a good way to build trust and goodwill with your client base.

And yes, everybody makes mistakes - it happens. But in this case, given the situation, I feel a definite need to warn people.

I'll give Ron a call when he gets back from his vacation. Web page says he is celebrating his 69th birthday. Maybe he just wants to scale things back...

Screw ups or no. Eric Gorr will never see any of my money. When I built my KLX motor I contacted him and long story short, his customer service sucks. I don't care how good a builder you are.

While I do think his quality took a bit of a dive when he started hiring people, vs doing the work himself. But that was several years ago. There are many happy customers. I just will not be one.
 
As far as RB goes, I, and everyone that I am aware of, has had customer service so good that it is almost surreal, combined with turn around and shipping times so fast it doesn't seem possible.

Seems odd to drop services for just one make, I wonder what the reasoning could be behind that?
