Riding while armed?

I've spent time in Brown Bear country, without a confrontation. I have had many incidents with Black bears. Statistically, you are more likely to be attacked or killed by a Black bear. Up to, and incuding a situation, this past Sept. I managed each close encounter without having to shoot a bear, in self-defence. It does help quell the tide of panic, in order to think clearly, while holding "enough" gun to stop a speeding truck:D

Agreed. And U don't want to play dead with a blackbear like some would with grizzly or browns.
I agree also that U need dogs to hunt cougar. They are thick around here.

GMP, your right Az was and is open carry. It recently changed so that you can carry concealed without a permit. I lived there a couple years ago. Here in Nv we can open carry as well but its not as prevalent as in Az.

I always get a chuckle reading stuff like this. A Volkswagen beetle driving at 30 mph has more total energy than a rifle bullet. It's more likely that you stop a vehicle by getting lucky and hitting an important component.
...but stopping a speeding truck sounds so much cooler:p

My favorite question: Can a person really outrun a bear downhill? The answer of course is NO! I haven't met anyone yet, that sprints at speeds up to 30 mph over broken ground, and through dense brush. Awesome! we started at "carrying while riding". Now we're going on safari...:D

I knew an aircraft mechanic in Juneau, AK. He always said..."When dealing with Brown bears, make sure to file down the front sight, on your pistol. It won't hurt as bad, when a bear sticks it up your arse" Gus swore by Rem 870s full of slugs.

LOL!!!!! That's pretty good.

Many is the mile I've pedaled in this configuration. I got a lot of strange looks on the "tree hugger" side of Capitol State Forest. Strange...noone ever said anything, at least within earshot:rolleyes:

When out with your friends you dont have to outrun a bear, you only have to outrun your friends.

That's precisly what I told my 'well-rounded' brother-in-law In Skagway, AK. As I broke into a sprint. 100 yds later, I tripped and broke my left foot. Not one of my prouder moments, as "he" really was a nervous wreck concerning bears. It was only 3 mi, but a 3000 ft vertical drop in elevation, back into town. I really had to man-up...After that stunt I wasn't about to ask for a rescue team. Up to about age 30, I've lived a damn colorful life:D:D:D

Another PA advantage. The DE is kind of a novelty, too big and expensive to be practical. I've got a .357 King Cobra and a nice Ruger .22 bull barrel with a lot of work thats very accurate. I'm told the Deltas use these for counter terrorism drills on planes, two in the forehead easily.

The Ruger Mark 2 Bull Barrel is a very nice little unit. Easy to handle, aim and shoot. I used to have one in Stainless with a 6" barrel and could hit what I wanted to with it. The Ruger KGP series revolvers were nice as well.

I have another friend that owns a charter boat in Hatteras, been there many times. Yes, big tigers on the Tarpon wreck. Lots of 'cudas too, they "stand their ground" if your near their nest.

Steve, you could have a BB gun in Canada?:D

We can have BB guns, but they use elastic bands for propulsion.....;)

Who tickled you that day, Bill? Haven't seen you that happy in a while.

"Sourpuss." Right.
That was my "I made it" grin. It's a trail I've only seen ridden, been led, "down". That day, I rode "up". Now I know why. I can't wait to do it, again:D Walker Valley 11-10-2012
Maybe, this Saturday...and the following Sat. 22. I just finished cleaning out my entire exhaust system, silencer repack, etc...NASTY!

Yesterday's ride just reconfirms why I carry when I ride. Crested a hill and on one side is a rocky cliff. Scared up two Hispanic males who where hiding in the rocks and they took off running. I called the Sheriffs office to report them. The Sheriff was already out there looking for them. I then took the officers to the location I scared them up at. We looked around in the rocks, we found packs with radios, food, water camp stove, a note pad with a list of names and how much money goes to each person and also weapon's. They officers told me that they are scouts for the drug cartel. They called in air support and caught the two guys.

To Clay, I may start carrying my. 40!

Which .40 do you have? I've been looking at the new m&p shield in .40 for riding, small light and they say recoil is very little.

Holy crap! That is scary! I'd leave the Makarov at home and carry the Springfield!
