single v double base gasket?

Yes but.
Point one contradicts point 2. Factory fault not yours. You'd think they would make the head bigger so if they ever did get a longer rod and a taller piston that used the squish space up which is super unlikely. The engine would still blow as its now 19:1.

Totally agree.

The volume of the 250 head is stupid small.

on my 04 and both my 09 bikes (250 and a 300) base gaskets are actually 3 gaskets, with a total thickness of 1.3mm. this lines the top of the piston up with the bottom edge of exhaust port....
stock squish on all these bikes is 2.3mm-2.7 mm
i have had one head remachined, to achive a squish of 1.3mm and its perfect (it also had the combustion chamber dome reshaped to get compression right)
hope that helps ya.
Thanks bud you did help and thanks to the others too for there comments. . Im still undecided weather ill go back to the stock sized gasket of a smaller gasket. .either way ill post my results here..

So what did you do?

I too had 3 gaskets on my '08 300, totalling at 1.2 or 1.3.
Since I'm waiting for original gaskets to arrive, I draw all engine gaskets (except case middle) in autocad, so will be having them cnc cut locally. Problem is, thinnest gasket material is 0.5mm, so can only have 1 or 1.5 for base.

iv ordered two new gaskets waiting on delivery .15 & .3 as fare as I remember ..I'll fit the .15 and see what result I get.. (just trail and error atm) .the bike is at the shop getting a suspension rebuild im collecting it Saturday..so it will be next week before I fit the new gaskets. I'll post the results
