Spring rate on Ohlins shock

Hello all!
I'm trying to figure out what my spring rate is on my Ohlins shock, It has these numbers on it 596-13/58 L142. Will this tell me what rate it is? Any help is greatly appreciated.

John

A little too fast on the reply there, Glenn. ;) Spring rate is measured in Newton/mm. 58 N/mm in this case.

I'm at 235 lbs (105 kg) in the skin, I'm running 62 N/mm on my FSE450. I would guess 215 lbs and 58 on an FSE would be spot on for woods riding. On an EC/DE I would look at 54-56 for woods.

Look through the threads in the suspension section. This has been discussed a lot.

Oh yeah I have been doing the searches! This is on a XC which I suppose will be the same as EC/DC and I am riding woods. I've seen the rates listed on other threads using a decimal though 5.4 etc. What is the conversion?

Thanks, John

I have a habit of leaving off the last "m".

Ohlins and WP springs are rated in N/mm, most others in Kg/m. Kg/m = .102(N/mm). So, a 52 N/mm Ohlins spring would be 5.3 Kg/m spring. Some people use them interchangeably, and although incorrect, the tolerances in some springs themselves can be as great as the conversion error.

Same with fork springs.

Ah, so mine would be a 5.916 if I did that right. May be a little stiff for me then. One of previous owners who had it before me must have been a heavy hitter.

Does anybody know what the other numbers on the spring refer to? My spring# is 596-09/50 460. I'm guessing that its a 5.0 N/mm spring. Does that sound like it will be in the ballpark for a 130 pound rider? I haven't had a chance to measure the sag with him on it.

It would be good if someone (with the knowledge) would list the suspension spring size's and rider weight as a good starting point.

Would make a good sticky
