Substitute For Clutch Cover Gasket

Is there anything I can use for a clutch cover gasket? Maybe something from an autoparts store? I don't want to do anything that would damage my bike. Current gasket is shot. I'm desperate to ride this weekend!!

I have several gaskets out of the rolls of cork gasket material. It's been a few years since I have done that, but i am sure a local auto parts store will stock it?


Roll it out, put cover on it, trace with marking utensil and cut.

Yep and if you don't have a hole punch set you can used fired ammo brass, works great as a hole punch. Fired .223 should work for the small holes you will need. Just make sure it's been fired/shot!

When you get the gskt. material get a little tube of prussian blue also. I think permatex makes it. Put a coating of it on the gskt. surface on your cover and then press the cover down on your gskt. material. It will leave a nice blue impression thats easy to cut out. A good heavy grease works fairly well too if you can't find the prussian blue.

I have even used regular brown paper bag several times in a pinch and never had any problem or leaks. You can pick up different thickness of gasket material at any auto parts store.

Yep and roofing tar paper/felt works in a pinch also.

As long as its not in a lot of small pieces, I've just stripped the oil/grease off of the torn original gasket with contact cleaner and bonded it back together and to the cases with a gasket sealer like Hylomar.
