The Gasser

I have had a 12 and currently have a 13. I broke the sub-frame on my 12 and had few other problems. The 13 was a huge improvement over the 12. I did break my sub-frame on the 13 but it was my fault, I was running on a flat tire that split and was on held on at the rim lock. I rode several miles like this and the sub-frame cracked from the tire hitting the sub-frame. It broke in a completely different spot than the 12. I would say they fixed the sub-frame in 13.

Cool picture and I like that you put the exhaust plug in just in case. ;)

I have a 2012, broke the plastic sub frame in the first lap of practice in the Denver Endurocross after misjudging traction and basically firing the bike 8 feet up in the air and having it land rear fender first.

Before that I looped it hard three or so times in Moab on slickrock without incident. My opinion is yes, the subframe does break but it takes some effort.

I'm with papa_j, if there is no resale I'm going to flog it hard until the wheels fall off.

Absolutely in love with the bike and i've ridden KTM, Husky, and Sherco 300 2T's.

I doubt the 2015 is thousands of dollars worth of improvement over my 2012. I know I couldn't sell my bike and buy anything I'd like better with the proceeds.

My 12 has been great, love it. I'm curious about the riding style these subframe breakers have, sit mostly im guessing. Or just way more aggressive than i and maybe crashing harder. That said mine best not break this weekend! Haha

What tire is this Wimpy? Thanks

The comments about riding a bike till it is "worn out" are kinda interesting. At what point is a bike "worn out?"

If the rings or cylinder wear, get the thing bored out and fit new piston and rings and keep riding. Crank bearings and transmission parts can be replaced.

If wheel, headstock or swingarm bearings wear, just replace them.

Forks and shocks can be rebuilt or replaced.

Bodywork and a broken subframe can be replaced or repaired.

I can't think of a single part that could wear out and not be replaced or repaired.

As to the comments about broken subframes. Abuse the bike and just about any part can break regardless of what it is made of. I have a couple of buddies with DRZ400's who have managed to break a steel subframe into multiple pieces.

Our GasGas bikes are higher spec and higher performance because they utilize lighter components or components made from non-traditional materials. If you want a bike that will survive any and all abuses you will end up with a heavy steel pig like a DRZ400 .... and who wants that?

My 12 was an early version. The replacement sub frame which was plastic had some changes making it stronger. It broke right at the upper frame mount by the shock. The plastic replacement sub frame held up fine. Was quickly covered under warranty as well.

Mt16 love that tire in the rocks. This was not a tire failure a rode a long time with it flat. Had to make the known control to finish the race. Ran out of zip ties to keep it on the rim. I now carry parachute cord figure that may last longer.

Your gas gas is worn out the second you have both; the means to buy a new one and the "go ahead" from the wife or significant other.

That picture is a classic! Now.....seeing that your in PA and I've never ridden in PA, but have limited exposure to PA..... if floating down some river by the PA/WV border counts....Ohiopyle....... i did ride a mountain bike through the woods in PA.....BASED upon my observation of the roots....rocks..... I can clearly understand how you got a flat tire......any why you rode so far with a flat tire..........run...I hear banjo music:D

I just looked at that picture again.........frankly that is badass...... never have I seen a tire 1/2 on and 1/2 off the rim where the silencer was still in tact!

It looks like a good tire to try with out going the trials tire route?

Bahahahaha...that's perfect.

Back to the original intent of the thread - have the insurance peeps gotten back to you yet? I hope they give you fair value for the bike.

Given the choices, I think I'd wait until the '15s were available and go that route. Take a hit on the purchase and then ride the he$$ out of it

I am thinking that also, but I have also been in contact with dealers that sell both Gas Gas and Beta. They are really pushing the Beta has the much more refined bike  I have a feeling that the 15 Gas Gas will be more on par with the Beta`s, but I could be wrong.

The insurance story is interesting: I called them last Thursday when it happened. On Saturday someone called, took all the info and I emailed 25 pictures of the bike and the SCUM BAG who stole the bike along with the van etc. I called on Monday and the insurance person it was assigned to would be out till the end of September ??? Really?? They were going to have someone call me back. The next I called again and they had assigned it to the personal injury division?? Really?? I know I pay a premium to have State Farm, but this is ridiculous!!! So I am going to call them again today and I am sure the excuse will be that this is going to be a long weekend and nothing will start until next week.

Talk about infuriating, I'd be on the phone with my agent - reading them the riot act the whole time. I have State Farm too and have had to claim a couple of bikes over the years (my fault - 2 street crashes). The first one was a pain in the arse, but the 2nd one wasn't too bad. I had to "sic" my agent on the claims part of SF in the first claim as their people were moronic when it came to bikes. That was 12 years ago and it still pisses me off...lol.

Did your van get stolen as well as your bike? And you have a picture of the arsehat that stole it?

Are you leaning toward the Beta then?

My wife rides and I have 6 bikes so I don't really need to seek permission.

Hey...my wife rides too, but I only have 2 bikes (4 if you include hers) :o Still need to get the ok before buying anything that "big", though the discussion is fun :D

I just spoke with the person in charge of my claim, so well see how it goes from there. The van was the SCUM BAGS!!! Not mine. I really dont know which way to go and I am just doing a ton of research on different bikes until I get paid. I can say that 2 of my buddies who have had Gasser`s in the past have Beta`s now and love them. Luckily it isnt a bad decision either way ;)

To me it's worn out when stuff starts failing from fatigue frequently, it is all replaceable but it takes time and money to do so. It's just not worth dealing with something that nickle and dimes you every ride.

I don't fault the bike for wearing out, I ride a lot, make a lot of mistakes, and end up tossing it away or dropping it down rocks a lot. I totally get that is going to shorten the life of parts and accept that.
