Hi all

Its time for a new tyre but iv run out of the trellaborg t lock sealant , it only comes in a 200ml bottle and its nearly 30 dollars , is there an alternative you can use ( iv never used a puncture sealant before this so nothing to compare it too ) , the t lock fluid id like milk with small grains of something mixed in to seal any holes.

Thanks for any help

Chris

Here in the States, two main choices are Stan's tire sealant, and Slime.
I prefer the Stan's. Not as messy as Slime and very effective. Readily available at mt. bike shops. Its a white latex based sealant that sounds similar to what you are used to.

I think the T lock sealant is needed is to seal the hole the needle makes in the tire, not neccessarily the insert to the tire.

It sounds like it would function the same, probably easier to mount as you don't have the Tubliss rim lock/LP schrader valve. I think the needle thing for a simple pressure check would get old though. My tires would be swiss cheese in no time.

In the fitting instructions it tells you to smear some sealant around the rim of the tyre before fitting.
The needle is supposed to go in the same hole all the time , you pick a point above the valve on the tyre so you know where to find it next time.

Same here, and I also use it as a mounting lube and sealing aid for the Tubliss insert.

Well i found some OKO in the local motor shop for a good price , it looks the same except its green , i got a 1ltr bottle for less than the 200ml bottle from trelleborg :D

Glad you found something. A less expensive alternative always feels like a big victory!

For anyone curious, here is a video of Stan's in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_BsT8D9JYY

Riding in Arizona is a thorn-fest, and I use the Stan's in my tubeless MTB tires. I always find dozens of big thorns every time I swap out an old tire. I never carry a repair kit when I ride and I never give the idea of flats a thought.
To be fair, I've used Slime and it works as advertised, too.

WOW...good stuff! I use the Quad Boss brand for ATVs, seals a big hole and I've had it seal a knob that ripped off of a Dunlop......it has 'chunks of rubber' in the mix that helps it seal off the bigger holes, kind of like a 'plug on the run' from the inside

I think the needle thing would be a pain in the neck........

It is a bit of a pain as the needle tends to come out of the holder when you are pulling it out .
The system does work well though , last time i was out i must have put too big a hole in the tyre for the sealant to plug , i rode the last couple of hours with a flat but still held firmly on the rim :D

That is the beauty of the tubeless systems, they hold the tire on nicely so you can ride with a flat (that is if slime or a plug dont work), but i think the tubliss system is easier to work with
