video question!!??

When you put your video together,,, how do you come up with what music to use?? I ran an event, I was the leader of a small group saturday of dirt bikes in the Jim Thorpe smoking hole rally.. Got about 50 miles of trail on.. ran out of memory a little over halfway thru due to first time using the camera and never really turning it off.. got it down to a 30 minute video.. used iMovie and did the transitions and stuff blah blah blah.. looks ok.. now audio.... I don't have crap for music in my iTunes.. not much of a buyer of music.. I listen to the radio and pandora.. so far I start out with a blues brothers clip into crazytrain, I know old school, I'm in my 40's.. then into some mild punk and metal.. then I start staring at my meager collection,, and iTunes to buy something but come up blank.. just can't think of anything at the moment... :confused:
 
Think of the music Gas Gas Spain would put in there videos and then do the complete opposite!

Just kidding(not really)

I usually pick music that has a certain mood to it. Something that has a drive and flow to it.

I like the sound of a 2T singing. You have to ensure the music is softer than the engine.. Then as above.. Try and set the mood to the ride.
 
I'm like you, a hard rocker at heart but I hate to buy a lot of stuff. I buy songs now and then I like that I hear on Sat radio. I started doing one with Shinedown, "The Sound of Madness".
 
I love music but not on motorcycle videos...what you like and what I like in music is probably two totally different things and visa versa...
 
Have you guys tried the open back on the GoPro housing for better audio? I added a couple strips of foam over the open slots to keep out dust and I'm going to try it next time.

Never have.. Had considered it but at the time it was so wet and muddy that I didn't want to chance it. Maybe in the cooler dryer seasons I'll give it a go. TBH I find the sound on the go pro pretty good, at least when compared to the Drift HD.

That looks good. Where is the camera mounted? Left side helmet? The FOV looks good, close to mine now maybe a hair wider. Don't sweat that copyright stuff, in some countries like Germany with different laws it will be blocked, and you will get a notice from Youtube, but there is nothing illegal about it.

I believe that as long as you provide credit for the music you can use it. It's only if you try to sell the video or generate revenue with the song and video combined.

Sorry, but no.
All music has whats called interlectual copyright.
You cannot do anything with music/film/image, digital or analogue that belongs to another person.

You can ask the person for permission to use their music/film/image
or search the net for Non copyrighted music.
This is music that the composer has given up the copyright for.
(or it is 99 yrs after the death of the composer)

I know it sounds heavy, and most people only want to enhance a film with a good tune, but for the composer it is uncontrolled promotion/use of his/her work.

Imagine finding your work being used to promote some hate group on the net!

The reason the net is full of films with copyrighted/images music on them is that it is a nightmare to police and secondly that a lot of composers take the risk of some small bad promotion when measured againts the benifit of the good promotion.

If you find a good tune to go with your film, look up the website of the band and just drop them an email, unless they are super snotty or already famous, the chances are they will say, cool.
Better still, ask one of your local bands.

I'm actually going the other way next year and will be asking bikers for films of off road and mx for a video.
 
It only took about an hr for my video to get flagged/blocked. The email said it "may be available with advertisements added". I'll find a local band but will contact at least a couple of the bands I used. Godsmack has a good history on bikes and in this area,, and may like the helmet cam footage?? They ride KTM still I think.. And the band Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies,, from their body or work, music and videos they have got a great sense of humor. And great music too.

Thanks for the clarification, I (obviously) wasn't completely clear on the issue. I thought I remembered that youtube had some policy where once you bought the music you could use it on your video as long as you gave appropriate citations or credit, but I guess I didn't understand it completely. I'll remember that when I insert music into a video. I do understand intellectual copyright and do not want to create an untenable position for myself or an artist.

If you need any crash footage let me know,, I'm sure I'll have some by the end of spring.
