Why Buy a Forestry Approved Silencer ?

I am wondering who other than me has gone out and invested in a spark arrester silencer ? And why ? It is a moral thing for me I love the forest and hate the idea of a firefighter getting hurt . I have no concern regaurding being checked for the most part but believe we need to check each other and ourselves . How about you ?

In my neck of the woods, there's almost nowhere to "legally" ride without one. That would even include private properties. MX is a different story, but for woods riding...better have one.

I mostly just want to be responsible for my environment so I always run one.

That said, and purely out of curiosity, have fires ever really been started from the exhaust of a two-stroke? Even a four stroke for that matter? I know my KX would occasionally spit some fire, but it didn't seem like anything that could start a fire. It almost seems more likely to start a fire from the hot head pipe coming in contact with dry leaves or grass.

I think it is a concern leftover from the pre nikasil days. I run one because all our riding is on public land but I also like the q4 because it's so darn quiet.

+1, like bowhunter, we need one to ride the areas we have access to. I've been checked a couple times.

And spooge issues aside (lol), I really like the Q4. I had the same pipe when I was riding orange and was glad it was stock on the GG.

Ya I was bummed when GasGas decided to put the turbine core on the new models instead of the stealth!

Yep! What they said

Sure, I saw it on an episode of CHiPs.

Does the sparky really have that much impact on noise reduction?

I'd say its unlikely that a 2T would blow enough sparks or flames to start a wild fire.. A 4 stroke on the other hand often get hot enough to glow in the dark and I've personally witnessed grass smouldering and turning to ember as it rested against an idling header.. that's in addition to many a melted pants.

I run a shortened Qstealth but left the SA intact. SA aren't required or checked in areas where I ride but I run one anyway. 2strokes can and do blow sparks when they are run way too lean and hard - it overheats the head pipe to the point that the carbon deposits glow red and dislodge from the pipe set the spooge in the silencer on fire. It doesn't happen often but it does happen and has happened to me. I do agree however that a hot header on a 4stroke (that happens all the time) is more of a fire hazard. If I had a 4stroke I would want the header wrapped and then covered by a carbon fiber guard.

I am sure that there is not a spark arrester on my 2015 since I cut it down.So Mattos will get some more of my money and I am getting a Q stealth unit .
