1999 250Ec questions from the new guy

I just picked up a great condition 1999 250ec complete with new wiring harness/ lights/ turn signals and ignition (I have to install)

Some questions for the group.

Does anyone have information on brake pads? Brand/ number
Does anyone have information on airfilters?
How about spark plug details.
Gas oil mixture recommendations?
Oil weight/ brand recommendations?

The bike runs great, it just needs some attention.

I'm not sure I can install the wiring harness on my own. ?????


I wanted this little jewel for the ability of it being street legal.

I do lots of dual sporting and wanted something that could take me off the grid.

give gofasters a call. they should be able to hook you up with air filters and brake pads. i use 40:1 yamalube 2r for premix in my 03. its one pint of yamalube to five gallons of gas. if your bike is the same as mine it should use a NGK b(r)8xx spark plug. i use the BR8ES plug because its cheap. the BR9EIX is the iridium plug and gives a much more intense spark, but you pay a pretty penny for it. gofasters has parts listed as far back as 2000, but i would think they should have the parts you requested. have fun!

There is a parts cross over on the home page.
If it has Nissen calipers they will be Honda XR/CR pads air filter will be Honda CR 250.

Beautiful bike!

Brake pads for the Brembo should be the same as KTM from the late '90s. Air filter would be '96-97 KTM, or '98 KX 250, or Honda CR 250. All of these work.

Depending on the action you want out of those forks, I'd use either 5w, or 7.5w. You can substitute ATF for the 7.5 if you want to save money. The internals of that fork really foul the oil quickly, and I just went to using ATF when I had them. As far as amount of oil; take the spring out and collapse the fork tube, then fill the fork leg with ATF, or whatever, 'till it's six inches from the top of the tube. This gives the best feedback, and has the best bottoming feel. I'd also not waste money on buying new seals. Just pop them out and clean them. They're likely just fouled, not ruined.

You can usually clean them without removing them with old 35mm film if you have an old unexposed roll,, strip some film out and slide it between the fork and seal,, using brake clean and rags and running the film around,, the little square cut touts catch and remove the dirt.. and can get you a few more rides before you have to refill..

If you ever get the urge to throw money at that bike... The place to start would be to replace those forks. Usually you can find a set of forks, complete with triple clamps right here on the board for what you'd spend on an exhaust system. I've had four Gas Gas motorcycles, the first with those Magnum 45's, then some WP 50mm conventionals, then Ohlins, now Marz Shivers. The only ones that ever were an issue were the Magnum 45's. They just fouled their oil so often. They do tend to flex a bit when pushed, and bottom easily on the big stuff, but for trail riding I thought they worked fine. This is a minor complaint, but I believe that's where you'll find the biggest improvement for that bike if you ever want to tinker with it.

If you want to make it quieter, I have a stock Euro spec super quiet silencer for that bike. Non spark arrestor, but I see you don't have one now anyway.

Any idea on what will fit my 1999 EC250?


I noticed the Parts crossover says "Footpegs ‘98-current YZ"
