Just an update......I live in Denver, CO and do most of my riding in the Pikes peak and up around Vail. AS I said 5,300 to 13,000. Really no replies to this?

How is your jetting now and how did the old piston look? Is the bike not running right? What needle, slide, main and idle jets are you currently using?

Before the head and carb mods I was running 42 pilot, 168 main and 2nd clip on the needle. Just had to adjust the air screw a little when I got above 12000ft. Worked pretty good for me all over Colorado.

Bel Air,

Thanks for the info..... I just bought the 300 2 days ago. The jetting that was in it was 175 main, 52 pilot with a stock needle. Blubbered all over the place! I just put in a 165 main, 45 pilot with air screw 2 turns and WOW what a difference. Just want to make sure it's not TOO lean. Whereabouts in Colorado are you?:D

I'm up in Longmont. I usually ride just West of Boulder or up North above Loveland/Ft.Collins.
We are riding Left Hand tomorrow,it's the only place around here without snow except for the tracks.

Bel Air...That sounds sweet! I just went today to Colorado Extreme Park off the 70.......fun if you like riding around at 70 mph all day....LOL First ride out on the 300.... My jetting is 165 main 45 pilot and stock needle middle position. Felt a little fat through the middle......any recommendations for a needle? And where is left hand? I KNOW where the brewery is!!!!

Torben,
Left Hand is off hwy 36 between Boulder and Lyons up Left Hand Canyon about 3.5 miles. Its got some 4wheel drive roads and some short single track trails.
The only needles I've used are a DDK before I had the carb mod done and then they put in a CEK. I never even tried a stock needle so I couldn"t give you a comparison.

Belair,

What exactly was changed in your head and carb mods? How much of a difference did it make? I'm living west of Boulder right next to Sugarloaf mountain and I actually bought the 300 that Torben is talking about above back in July. I've put a ton of hours on it since then and I'm going to tear into it during this off (snowmobile) season. Its lacking a lot of hit and the off idle response is pretty non-existent, which is probably due to jetting (been messing with that the whole summer). Anyways, looking to make some improvements and I haven't really found anyone with good tuning advice for riding out here at altitude.

ps
We should ride sometime, my roommate and I both ride gassers and we can ride right from the garage.

Egesledder,

Torben bought that bike from me this past winter/spring and I can tell you the history of the bike since it got here (Broomfield/Westminster area) from Texas about 7 or 8 years ago. It never had much of a bottom end compared to my 2000 EC300 but I believe that was due to the topend needing replacement and some fiddling with ignition advance here at altitude. I have the RB Designs head mod and carb mod done on my EC300 and if you want to ask me thoughts on them send me a PM. We are trying to setup a ride for this weekend if you are interested!

Well, for this winter I'm thinking:

New top end
head mod
carb mod
major rejet, probably just call LTR and get a kit
possibly get the original pipe to replace the gnarly?
Adjust PV?
ignition "fiddling"

Its already geared 13/51, so thats not the issue.

Any other ideas out there?

Drew
