Ah to have passion about something again...

Steve,
Thank you for the kind post on orange talk.
Is it a requirement for that forum that for every one polite member there has to be 9 a$$holes? You didn't slam KTM in any way. You just politely pointed out that members there should maybe consider a Gas Gas and the first response was rude.
I don't get it.
Clay

Considering it was his first post though it does sound like a bit of a sales pitch/recruiting mission. It is also KTM talk. They're all on the orange koolaid. Any other generic motorcycling forum and I bet you'd get much more positive feedback. Just my 2c worth.

I have a little different opinion on this. I am on here and KTMTALK. One of my biggest complaints about this forum is the continuous KTM bashing. I have both and they are both great. I have seen a negative comment about Gassers over there sometimes but it is much less than I see here.

Just my 2cents.

Jeff,
I think you will find that I have said on more than one occassion that the orange bike is a really good motorcycle. Obviously I think ours is better but the KTM is definitely good. I was mainly talking about the tone of the comment that the poster made to Steve. I thought Steve's comment was respectful but the reply was flat out rude. I don't think I have see anyone make a rude comment to anyone else on this site.
Maybe I'm prejudiced.... :)

I would have to disagree on your statement Jeff. Go look through some threads in the "Euro" section about the gasers. Man it has gotten really ugly over there. The best ammunition they can come up with is there is parts issues and no dealers, etc, etc. Then when you try to school them on this kind of stuff they get all pissy and defensive.

I for one like bikes in general. I had one KTM 200 and 2 gassers, followed by my 450 Berg that I just got rid of. All of them had their good points & bad points. The gasser just suits my riding style better. This is why I am getting a 2013 gasser when they get here. Hands down though both gassers had better suspension. I spent a ton of coin on the berg suspension and still was not happy.

In the end I don't give a shit what anybody rides just as long as you are riding.

Happy Trails,
Robby

No problem. I agree with Clay that I do not often see it get personal on this site. It just seems like every day I get on here I see slams against the orange bikes. It just seems kind of petty but not a big deal.

I actually bought a rm 250 project to fix up. I like em all!

Word mate! I think you'll find half the pumpkin bashing that goes on in here is in jest. Jokes about the dark side and such.

I'm with you! I don't care if someones riding a clapped out postie bike. We're all in it for the fun of riding! Anyone who is brand loyal enough not to appreciate and learn from the other bands is only missing out on the full experience riding has to offer.

I was all tingly with GG love this morning. I make no apologies other than I didn't realize it was my first post...which is cheesy. I usually just lurk and don't post unless I own one.

In any event it was meant in the best possible way, and moving it to the niche forum is petty, but every man has to do what they got to do.

I am pretty sure there isn't a bike out there that you can't find something wrong with. The only time I think about the weight is when I am putting the GG on the milk crate.

Funny but true story. The guy who exposed me to GasGas's had sold his that he neglected and forgot how good they are when maintained. When I got my shiny new 2010 EC 300 he wanted to try it and I rode his new FI KX 450 with a rekluse. We were down at one of our St. Joes trips in a big group. After about 10 minutes I kept thinking his bike has to be 20-25 lbs lighter actual weight but I will be dog gone if I can find one place on the trail that it feels like it is true. I kept thinking I hope I get my bike back soon...I really don't like this. Although it has a MONSTER of a motor which was fun for straight line racing.

He got off mine and we exchanged and he said...MAN is that light. Just goes to show you can sell specs all day long until you know the whole story.

I contend my GG is prolly one of the lighted bikes I ever owned, and that is because it handles so well I have not put it down one time while riding (it did fall over in the garage once) therefore I am not picking it up except off the kickstand. I am not here to tell you it is a magical bike but I do feel guilty when riding with friends. I know some of my friends are better riders and the bike literally makes up the gap and then some.

Just trying to spread the word. People who are gonna hate are gonna hate. Like I told my friend at work tonight. If your favorite tool in your tool box is a hammer...everything looks like a nail.

I just like to ride ! Have some experience with other brands but all in all GG just feels right for me. I do see that all of them have goods and bads but I don't feel I'm bashing a particular brand just because I say what the experience with that bike felt to me. Even today I wish my GG had the mechanical accessibility of my former KTM but on the other hand it gives more joy in riding than any other bike I tried.

Its all about what fits, both physically and mentally, and what inspires the most confidence. For me the GG is that bike, no question. Some guys can ride and go fast on anything. I wish I could just go down to the local Yamaha dealer and pick up a cheap leftover YZ250, slap some protection and a small FWW on it and be happy, but I can't. Same with the orange bikes, been down that road twice, and rode newer ones. To me they just feel "disconnected". I suppose if you have a higher skill level and confidence than myself, you can get past this and find the bike is great.

I thought about this over night and I think what made me mad about the post was the comment about no dealers in the US. It takes a lot of really hard work to get a dealer network up and running and to have it discounted that way really got under my skin. I'm pretty proud of what we have done in two short years with a bad economy and weak dollar and that comment really got to me. Sorry to get us into this discussion.
Again, Steve.......thanks for the kind words that got this started!

That' understandable. You have a lot of passion for the sport and Gas Gas, which is obvious by your diligent effort to keep your customers informed. It takes some balls to put yourself out there like you do on this site, and I for one really appreciate it.

I too like all bikes but I'm not a cultist and it seems to me like a substantial number of KTM riders are. Not a majority but a significant number much larger than any other dirt bike riders. That's OK, by itself that would not keep me from buying a KTM. My problem has more to do with the double standard the dirt bike rags here in the U.S. fawn over the orange bikes while at the same time taking cheap jabs at GasGAS. I may buy another KTM in the future but I'll never buy another Dirt Rider mag until they stop taking cheap shots at GasGas.

They only fawn all over them now due to the paper sack left over by the hospitality tent. Unless you are in the sport and have ridden all brands you only then can make an educated decision. There is no publication that really helps us out with that. When I say us, I mean dirt bike riders in general not just GG.

IF GG ever gets popular and leaves the sack at the red and white hospitality tent they will print how we have been soo good for soo long but unappreciated blah blah blah.

I truly have not had one person, and a lot have ridden my bike, ever get off and say oh...that's nice and that's it. I have had people get off and say they loved the handling but would be concerned about getting parts, if I was gonna ride a 2stroke this would probably be it, I don't think I could give up the grunt of my 450, I have always been a <Brand X> fan or I would consider it, I wish I could afford one. All understandable even if misguided.

Then to read these articles makes me know they are bogus, however almost everyone who has ridden my bikes has said the same thing that Dirt Rider article said that it felt normal, and usually there is some kind of getting to know period with a bike. I think that may be the ultimate testament to the bike. A well designed piece of equipment rarely brings attention to itself, it just does what it is supposed to do. I think unwittingly they paid the highest of compliments. Most won't put that much thought into it.

another mag we advertise with in the NE US, seems to be hooked on the orange koolaide too.Plenty of Austrian bike coverage. Nearly nothing on Beta,Husky,TM, etc... I'll have to re-read the DirtRider article on the '12 XC300 for those "cheap jabs" ... I too, like 'em all ! Even that Cannondale/ATK 4t ... :o

I'm probably over at KTMTalk more than here. I am "austruck" over there. I enjoy the heck out of that forum. Probably due to the fact that they have a political and an off topic section which I like to mix it up with the few libbies that venture in there.

Anyhow, I enjoy pointing out all the KTM short comings to all the kool aid chuggers. Every year there seems to be a problem that they have to fix, like the gas cap that popped off or the expansion chamber that was paper thin and blew out in no time or, like, since the inception of the electric starter that everybody just loves until they get one and then take it off cause its so whimpie...and how many years have they had the PV pin coming out and dropping in the bottom end???the chuggers get a little hot under the collar when those things are pointed out.

There is a post over there now call "Gash-Gash=Porkie" or something like that. The GG guys have stepped up on that one and pretty much quelled the
orange guys but you really can't tell them anything, 95% of them have never tried a GG but they know their KTM is the best bike ever....
