Carbon fiber pipe guard pros and cons?

What does everyone think of the carbon fiber pipe guards for the 2 stroke bikes? I'm thinking of adding one to my 250. Pros & cons? Do they rattle or hold mud against the pipe? Thanks in advance!

My limited experience is...You prevent small dents, but bend the pipe. I've opted for occasional small dents, with a mostly intact pipe. I manage to bend armored pipes. I can live with small dents...'till they need repair. I could also stop clubbing logs & rocks with the pipe...

My carbon fiber guard has done its job. No rattle, but the thing I don't like is that they hold water and will rust the pipe if you don't take it off every time you wash the bike...sort of a pita

pipe guard

I took and ran high temperature silicone beads around inside the guard then clamped it on then run a finishing bead all around the outside edge. Mo
Mine finished off real nice been using it like that for ten years now.

Here is a con.

On the outside the guard did not look too bad.
Take the guard off and.....well that sucks!!!!

Bet you felt that one!!

Looks like it will pop out quite easily though. Did it twist any of the mounts or just an evil pointy rock?

This is a good example of what happens when you let your buddy ride your bike and he takes off flying like a bat out of hell on a loose gravel road and them comes to a corner and loses control of the bike.......
Lesson learned for me....:(:mad::confused:

Some where on here was a link to a company where you can send your pipes to get repaired and it was pretty damn cheap.

Any one remember what post that was in? I can't seem to find it...

No doubt lesson learnt for them too!! Whats their standard ride?

That has happened to me as well, and is one reason why I do not use them anymore. After they age a little from repeated small hits in the same place,
the resin breaks down and they become nothing more than a CF cloth bag over the pipe in spots.

Mine has kept me dent-free for years. Yes, the pipe can push back into the frame. I can live with that.

As for the guard turning into a burlap bag-- I use 24-hour JB Weld to patch it up.
