Clutch problem sticky?

anybody else think it would be a good idea to make a clutch sticky thread? ive had alot of clutch trouble with my 03, and it seems that alot of other people have had trouble with their clutch not disengaging and i was thinkin, what if we made a thread, and had people post possible ideas as to what was wrong, and the remedy for those issues, maybe include pics, or links to how to's.

shell rotella t synthetic blend diesel grade oil is a big help. up here in canuckistan we get 5w-40w, but i hear in the usa you folks get 0w-40w. it flat out works! my bike starts in gear with one or two kicks 90 percent of the time.

and see i got 0w40, and it helped a little, but it still doesnt work. so im thinkin that its bent clutch plates. but i think a sticky would help, just one place where we can compile all the problems involving the clutch, and various solutions and suggestions as to how to fix those problems. it seems that the clutch is a common problem with gassers.

i don't think i'd say the clutch is a common problem with gassers. it gets abused just like all 2 stroke clutches, and needs regular service. if you measure plates, check basket fingers, etc. just like all other 2 strokes, clutch will operate properly. i don't think there's any design flaws in it's construction, it's the same as most other 2t clutches...

not design flaw type common problem, just that theres lots of people posting questions about it. nobody knows what to do when their clutch quits working properly. so i think it would be a good idea to make a sticky so that people can find answers quickly.

+1 I have been having trouble with my clutch, I replaced plates checked basket installed new slave cylinder and still couldn't fix it. Finally took it to a dealer and am waiting to hear back now.

im thinkin of calling ajp america and seeing if i can use their magura master cylinder, as it has a bigger piston, so it would push harder. that or see if i can use a ktm's magura. i love the feel of my girlfriends 2006 exc200 with the magura.

magura and ajp are different companies..

hydraulics are a trade off. you can switch piston diameters, but feel will change, as will clutch rod throw.

i've been contemplating a radial master to see how that would work. just gotta buy a cheapy brembo copy on ebay.

so in other words a magura would work? it isnt that expensive, and its got a 10.5 piston, i think our ajp has a 8 or 9, or something like that. idk. also, its freakin impossible to find aftermarket levers for the ajp. a shorty costs 32 bucks! and im sure i can find a used magura off of a ktm if i look. i love the feel of my girlfriends. i dont really like mine. plus, theres no sight glass on my mc, and while that is a minor complaint, i still dont like it.

the banjo bolts pitch may be different, you'd have to check.. any hydro clutch master will work, as long as you can get it plumb in.depending on the piston diameter you may lose the progressive feel, or it may be longer pull to slip.

levers for ajp clutch are like $10.00 aftermarket.

the feel of hydraulic clutches is dictated by 3 or 4 things:
the ratio of piston diameters between master and slave. this is the most important thing - if you know the diameter of master/slave pistons on your girlfriends clutch, you can match that ratio and get almost identical feel.
the shape/length of actual lever
the clutch springs (although not much on hydraulic clutches)
the hydraulic line itself (although it should have almost no effect, you're not gonna swell a clutch hose easily, there's not that much pressure.)
possibly the size of the banjo bolt orifice (should be nil/minimal effect..)

also worn plates/worn basket/worn hub/worn cush/bad bearings can also have an effect..

im thinking about post clutch repair. and im talking about aftermarket shorty levers. i know gofasters has them, but their like 32 bucks, and i think i found somewhere else too, but i dont remember where. the other thing is, if my system is set up for DOT4, would i be able to use the magura, which is set up for mineral oil. would it be compatible with my slave cylinder? or would it leak. it was just a thought. if i went for a bigger piston, the pull would be harder, but it would be a more powerful push, and if repairing the clutch plates/basket doesnt work, that my be my next resort. ill look around and see what the ktm has for a slave piston and see what would happen. man is it a sweet pull.

My clutch is also very sticky when the motor is cold. It has the tendency to drive gently with the clutch pulled in first or second gear. After 2 minutes driving it resolves itself but it's a little bit annoying :(
