Dirt Star differences ??

I just bought an '04 DE300 to go along with my '06 EC250 and am prepping the 300 to become my primary ride. I notice both bikes have Dirt Star rims but they look completely different. The '04 wheels are rounded from edge to edge and the '06 wheels have slight ridges. Is one wheel better than the other? stronger? Looks like neither one would hold much mud but the '04 has less edges to 'stick' to. Thoughts or experiences please. Thanks

The older 04 rims are better/stronger and still a coveted rim to find. Take good care of em.

From my understanding after talking to someone at DID there was a patent conflict with another rim producer (I'm thinking Sun but he would not say) and that's why they stopped producing them.

Actually except for OEM bikes DID dropped out of the US market for a few years. They are now back with a new line of accessory rims.

Those 04 are much heavier. I haven't weighed them but they feel at least 1-1.5 pounds heavier per wheel. The extra strength is well worth the weight cost if you run tubes at low pressure. The lighter rims hold up fine if you use the Tubliss system.
