We'll see Mark.. Its less than 5 months old. Fitted @ 159hrs. Now 208hrs. Only 49hrs old!

Everything else is mechanically in order. I can't see that it being a mechanical fault.

It jammed into the spring retainer and bound up. I actually still had clearance over the rear wheel, albeit a ridig back end. Once on the side of the trail I pulled the linkage and spring etc to determine what really happened. Then trailered it home.

I'm really grateful that nothing else happened, no further damaged to bike or more importantly me. Considering I was pattering along in the bottom end of 6th gear (around 80km/hr) when it let go things could have been a whole lot worse.

Ever seen this happen Steve? Any idea what may have caused it?

Glad yo hear you are OK, and I hope Ohlins takes care of that. They should want to inspect it to ensure they don't have bigger issues.

Looking at the picture it appears that it fractured at the root of a thread, so likely some poor processing on their part or corrosion that induced the failure. A more typical failure might have been a pretzeled shaft. Hopefully they will tell you after doing a full metallurgical assessment (and after they do a full inspection and rebuild done on your shock ;))

One should expect more for the $$, don't you think? Never saw anything like that, just an occasional clevis.

Was the lower bearing still in good condition? Stiffness here could stress the shaft.

You know thats exactly what we're all thinking.

Thats my initial feeling as well and also the outcome I am hoping for.

I had considered this also. No such issues. Every single bearing in the linkage, shock and swingarm was sealing well, had no excess play, and will smoothly turn. The clevis was still attached to the lower mount after the shaft snapped and was confirmed not to have any play or binding as I pulled it apart on the side of the trail to inspect the extent of the damage and possible cause. All bearings were checked and lubed, with 2 x corroded bearings replaced 50 hours ago just prior to installation of the TTX.

Back to the 888 by the looks.

Spot on.

Maybe a stone jammed the clevis to the rocker, but even so I would think the alloy clevis would break first. I'd be major pissed off at that. Glad I don't have a taste for the Ohlins koolaide. Even the 888 is nothing special, rebound ckt. affects compression too much IMO and the clicker has a cheap crappy feel to it. I could go just as fast with a well valved Sachs or KYB if it fit.

Doesn't seem to be any evidence of anything jamming any of the linkages. In other news I am yet to receive an email back regarding this failure.

I can understand that accidents happen and have not got angry yet, but rolling on a few days I would like some confirmation that progression is being made. Even if its just a thanks for the email. We will pass this info on to Ohlins and have them contact you. IMO its the way that issues are handled that are much more important than the issues themselves.

I agree 100% with you, respond to my request, let me know your working on my issue at hand....provide timely feedback........I am the customer!!!

I don't even mind when businesses say "sorry, we can't do anything to help you". I'm at least then free to explore other avenues or take it up the ladder myself. At this point in time I am trying to do things the right way. I know from the other side of things its frustrating to have a customer contacting multiple persons themselves with the same issue. Just a little bit of communication goes a long way. FWW I'm not having a go at anyone here or questioning anyones business skills, just expressing my thoughts in general. I'm sure you can all imagine I'm pretty keen to get some feedback on this after dropping a large sum of cash on a part not even 5 months ago.
