EC200 Cylinder Measurements

I am not sure if I can help but I have a 2004 EC200 completely disassembled. I could give you measurements off my bare cases.

Try to get a number from the top of the bearing bore to the cylinder base surface. Relaively easy on a bare case and all else can be calculated from that.

i doubt it would be the cases.
i'd rather think it's the con-rod that's too short...
it does make sense that ,when your piston is at BDC it sits under the exhaust port, and none of our stock gassers have that.
and when your piston is at TDC it allso sits about 3-4mm under the cilinderhead.

you could end up with the piston under the exhaust port if you had it stroked but then allso the piston would come out of the cilinder on TDC.

so to me it really looks like someone missed on the con-rod...
i guess you could allso measure from the outside if your cases were to high.
if they would be like 3-4mm too high, you'd definately notice that...
if i find the time i'll try to find a way to measure that from the outside.

ciao,Hannes.

Removing the flywheel and stator you might be able to spec up a measurement from the crank to the case which will help.

Like I said before Wes, I have a used Vesrah rod sitting on the bench beside me. Let me know if you want anything measured.

The rod should have a part # cast into it, at least the Vesrah rods in the 250s did.

Yeah he posted it a few pages back. Vesrah 5001.

Another thing. For those with the cylinders off. Whats the measurement from the top and/or bottom of the cylinder to the exhuast and transfer ports?

The measurement from top of the bearing bore to the cylinder base surface is 2.455 inches.

OK, got a few more numbers here:

1. Base gasket surface to crank center line is 3.8705" (98.31mm)
2. Base gasket surface to connecting rod small end center line is 2.340" (59.44mm)
3. Calculated rod length center to center is 4.9305" (125.23mm)

Jakobi, if you could give me the rod measurement I can rule that out.

Zman, if you can give me the diameter of the bearing bore I can compare the base gasket height off crank center line.

Really appreciate all the help with this guys.

Wes.

I just used a rule and didn't confirm center to center (eyeballed only) but appears to be right at 125mm. I can spend more time measuring more accurately tomorrow.

Well, there's the problem. Probably worst case scenario (pun intended), the crank center to base gasket measurement is out 1.96mm from Zman's. This explains the 4mm squish when it is usually around 2mm on the Gassers, and why the piston is 1-2mm below the exhaust port at BDC. Thanks for all the help guys, this will hopefully give me the facts I needed to get this sorted out through warranty.

Wes.

Wes,

So you mean it has to be the cases then? WTF is going on there?

Yep, looks that way. I was hoping it would be something as simple as machining the cylinder but no such luck. Definitely a significant machining error from the factory.

Wes.

Wes,
I'm on this. I will get you a new engine or new bike.
Give me a couple of days, please.

It is a little tricky to measure with calipers and a straight edge so I measured it one more time and I came up with 2.443 inches this time. I think I am within 0.010 inch.

Thanks Clay, please keep me posted.

Thanks for double checking Zman, that actually makes it about 1/4mm worse, either way it's out to lunch.

Wes.

I compared your photo of your case to mine and they appear to be different and collaborate your findings from the measurements. Your cases look taller based upon the distance between the top of the intake port and the top deck surface of your cases. The photo shows your case but calls out my measurement. From your photo, it appears that your cases are close to 0.1" taller than mine based upon the thickness of the case above the intake port.
