Electric Starter pictures 2011 300EC

Everyone was crying about no electric start on the 2010's, and now everyone is crying about having electric start on the 2011's. Buy a new GasGas, shut up, and RIDE!

So true.... You can never make everyone happy what ever you do:rolleyes:

Yes it is bigger than most had hoped for, and yes we all were looking for a internal design that would have been hidden. But i think for a Recreational rider such as myself , this is a good thing. It gives options to the customers. I ride my bike recreationaly , i ride hard trails , and i ride my bike hard at times too. I dont race , so 10 to 15 pounds extra weight is not that big of deal to me, i dont want extra weight , but if i want a E-Start i know it comes with a trade off. The starter looks to be beefy , but then its most likely a real starter , not a Re-starter , and made to use all the time. And , it does look like it might be retrofitable if some just had to have it on their older model , and that seems to be very smart thinking on GG , one starter for many year bikes maybe ?
Myself , i wont be getting one anytime soon , id rather have a EXP clutch to be honest , but for the next bike ....maybe

My 2 cents

Just a thought,
one thing not mentioned on the positive side of this new starter set up.

For the night racers/ riders this should make setting up your bike with HID lights less costly and very easy to do. So really if your planning on good lighting, the cost of the starter could help you save $ when you outfit your machine with lights.

Well you will still need to float the ground and add a reg rectifier for hids.

Estart? we dont need no stinkin estart!

I've been too busy counting my money and paying exorbitant taxes to subsidize the Coastal provinces. Thanks for the good weed though!

Just before KTM came out with e start on 2 strokes, I told a friend of mine about it the morning before a race in Tennessee. He kind of looked at me like I was nuts but really didn't offer any comment one way or another. After the race, he told me that he got stuck on a big snotty hill with an overheated bike and body. He said he had to keep crawling around on the up hill side of the bike and kicking it. He told me he that when I told him about the estart before the race, he thought KTM was nuts for e starting a 2T but that he sure could have used one during that race! Now he has an e start 300.

There will be about $400 price difference between the e start and non estart models.

For those of you who do not want e start, the will still be the standard XC300 w/o e start, the Six Days, the Race model and the Nambotin in a 300. I like the way GG gives customers both options rather than producing e start only.

Clay

The KTM patent kept GG from using the horizontal set up.

widebear,

Its probably a good thing that we don't have an off topic or political discussion forum here like on some other sites, because despite it being a lot of fun, you, myself, and nhrider at least could get into some real trouble.:D :D

Funny stuff!

I'm always in trouble. Good trouble. ;)

Here's KTM's e start kit for their four strokes.

Here's the two stroke kit.........

I think I see why KTM has problems with their starter set up on the 2 strokes.

The starter motor's power flow has to make a 90 degree change to engage the flywheel ring gear.
The KTM 4 stoke's power flow is on the same plane.

Pretty or not , this is a smart move for GasGas. I personally could care less if they have e-start, but it will sell a ton more bikes for them. New buyers won't have the naive argument that the KTM has e-start and GasGas doesn't, and it's an option to be retro-fitted for used bike buyers as well. If they really are developing direct injection, that will require a major redesign to the motors anyway, and I could see them doing a much more integrated set-up at that time. Hopefully it will still just be an option though.

These were posted on ThumperTalk.
Does not look too bad on the bike.

Spark plug access is the same.

I like it and would get one. Hey, I just screwed up my ankle and I could not kick start a bike right now. After I had my collarbone plated, I tried to start my bike. It was maybe a month after surgery. It sucked big time. It took all I had to get it going. I would have given my first born for e-star. lol

hmm. it looks alot more obstructive and cumbersome in the original post, probably due to angle. that dont look half bad. now to see if it works better than the ktooms.

your right ...
don't look so bad in that pic.
still ugly though and it has that someone beat us to a better looking design and this is the best we could come up with in a hurry look ....

I'm still waiting for a pic of this blinged out 200 iread about earlier!!

Been watching this thread for some time.
I think a combo of E-Start 2T Gasser's and an aggressive group like Clay and company is just what the U.S. needs to put the sexy Spanish bikes back in the woods. I think lots of guys will just look at that cool button next to the right grip and be glad to be on a 2 smoker again. Like anything new, the starter assy. looks odd now, it won't when you are leaned over on a side hill with the rain pouring off your visor, one foot dangling and the other over a root ball and guys trying to get around you on the last lap of the race.
I can't wait to try......

It does look better viewing the whole bike. I apologize for the negativity and do not want to bash the effort as it is an option that will be welcomed by some, not a requirement. Plug access OK and you really do not need a larger PV cover on a 300. Lets hope its reliable enough. You can save some weight and space by ditching the battery for a lighter NiCad or NiMh version.

It would be interesting to see the KTM patent. I'm surprised that none of the Japaneese mfgs did not patent a good design and sit on it, beating KTM.

Glad to see some common sense coming around in this thread. The BS and negativity surrounding the estart was killing me:rolleyes:
