Electric Starter pictures 2011 300EC

They will sell every one of them that they make, but for the $500 extra that it costs, the weight and the general ugliness of it, I will kick start my 2011 EC250.

Are there really that many pinko commie liberals out there that every one will sell? Estart on a two stroke still wont alleviate stalling because of wimpy's poor clutch and throttle technique. It will however help with your stopping and starting every five minutes because your an out of shape socialist wimp. :p Reverup and trail builders exemp. Estart two strokes today, big brother in every aspect of your life tommorow. George Washington had wooden teeth and utered some of the finest words ever spoken. The founding fathers must be groaning in their graves---groaning!

Looks like the blowout preventer stack on BPs well...

I hate to say it and rain on the parade but I expected something totally different. It looks like it may even hinder spartplug access.
:D I love this response. Hopefully it works better than BPs attempt for those that throw their money down.

I also expected something far different than this and if it is a 500$ addition it would be hard for me to option it on in its current form. As mentioned by several the plug access is gone, that sucks.

On a side note I have wore my kick start lever and gear out on my last two 300's with all the restarting I do setting up course's. Thats my main motivation for a e start 2 stroke. Maybe I'll just kick my wife off her WR 250F when it's time for work. I have actually used it before for that and it's so nice to have a button for that particular reason.

A buddy of mine just commented the other day that the estart on his ktm 300 stopped working, he's clueless on maintainence and has'nt serviced the starter and its bendix ever. Will be interesting to see what the $ damage will be compared to replacing a kicker every two years. How do you improve on a beutifully simplistic kick start system? Batteries are'nt free either and those guys over in India, we are enabling, leeching lead and heavy metals into the sea water because he's dismantiling that old oil tanker right on the beach to make new batteries. I dont care how far away he is that crap is in to our food supply. It's a race to the bottom And its just not neccesary!

I expected something totally different. It looks like it may even hinder sparkplug access. I wonder if its a major compromise on their part to get past the KTM patent. I can see something like the old '04 and prior connterbalancer cases, with the motor inside, driving a sprag on the primary side.

I also figured they would do something similar to the old cases. That's a generic starter motor, not a lighter unit more suitable for a two stroke. Even the battery looks to be a regular size unit. Worst case scenario would be to remove it all. Maybe someone will post up the actual weight difference. I don't see it being that big a penalty for casual riders.

I think 10 lbs is more realistic.
ytz7s battery is 5lbs...starter motor gotta be 4-5lbs. extra crap like brackets, bendix, relay, ring gear, regulator/rectifier etc... maybe i was enthusiastic at 20lbs - but 15 at least...

either way, no o/s pv cover, less access to sparkplug, and a big honking doo-dad obscuring the view of a nice looking motor. plus another buncha maintenance - charging system adequate to keep the $130 battery juiced? more hassle then it's worth to me. to each his own i guess, but i don't really need an electric leg. will it sell more bikes? probably. and what's good for the company is good for all of us. money keeps parts flowing.

:D Thats funny! The founding fathers are groaning alright but its not about 2-stroke estart!

Gawd what a behemoth.GG should put it straight into their museum of tried but failed projects.
Whatever happened to the idea that enduro bikes should be reliable, well made, bearbones basic and good looking to boot?

Personally I am not fussed about kicking my bike and therefore don't really care about the estart, except for the GG market share side of thing and the fact more people will possibly buy them therefore getting the GG name out there.
I am not sure why GG would not support Turn tech,(for the battery) ,or the like as they are a US based product and are very light and reliable. They could halve the weight of the battery or better by doing this...
Cheers Mark

Yikes...not the cleanest of designs. Looks like overkill on that starter motor. The motor on the KTM is big enough. The 300 KTM's biggest issue is with the YTX4BS battery. Install a YTX5BS and most issues go away. Two stoke starters present some unique challenges. The reed cage prevents mounting a starter like you would in a 4 stroke and the sealed crankcase means you have to drive off on the flywheel. If they would use a smaller motor I think that design would clean up some.

thats wrong on soo many levels! i agree with qui-gon, my bike only needs more than one kick the first start of the season.. and as big an ugly as that thing is, id pass on it anyway if i had the money to buy one. its damn near as big as the jug!

i think, in all fairness, that it is a good thing. options are always good. i think i would make it so that the dealership carries a few in stock, and somebody buying a new bike has the option of putting it on or not. cuz personally i dont mind kicking, but somebody who has a hard time kicking, or even somebody that has some sort of dissability and still wants a two stroke, would appreciate the e-start. options are always good.

Dank. You seem to be a touchy feely liberal type, handicaped riders? I've got a mental handicap! does that count?: , help me plea---se. You could allways hire some illegal aliens to bump start your bike for you, get rid of the cooling system too, have them fan the engine with palm fronds. Who knows maybee eventually you could get them sworn in and hooked up to the I.R.S. paying taxes. Me Bwana.

widebear,

Its probably a good thing that we don't have an off topic or political discussion forum here like on some other sites, because despite it being a lot of fun, you, myself, and nhrider at least could get into some real trouble.:D :D

Funny stuff!

im refering to people who lose things like hands or legs....... ive met a few riders without a hand, and i bet its a royal b#$tch to kick a bike over with one had. or without that oh so convenient right foot.... or the guy (cant remember his name) who is paralyzed from the waist down, and rode the baja 500 a couple years back. guys like him. i just said that it is nice to have the option. u dont need to dig into me. and, for your information, im a rural minnesota conservative dairy farmer. i just think its kindof a moot point to argue over the e-starts existence, especially since you can take it off. i was just sayin that i think its a good idea to have that option.

Everyone was crying about no electric start on the 2010's, and now everyone is crying about having electric start on the 2011's. Buy a new GasGas, shut up, and RIDE!
