Flexx Bars

Gets tall with that pad over the damper. Too bad I hate submounts, like you too I guess. Think I'd have to loose the pad so I could adjust the damper.

GMP, if you would like to run the pad and adjust your damper you could drill a hole in the pad cover and foam for a hose to run through. Slip the hose over the adjuster knob and wire tie it. Then use a plastic adjuster star on the top of the hose to adjust the damper as needed while riding. Typically this is an acceptable solution to this problem. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Cole

Cole,

I'm a tech guy so always asking questions and thinking about different ways to solve problems. Did you guys ever think about a different profile cross member(s) to keep the height down? I realize it would not be a flat stamping or forging like you have now. Likely a mfg. cost issue. Not a criticism, all is good and thanks for contributing.;)

Thanks for thinking of new ideas GMP. We've experimented with different ways of routing the crossbars with limited success. There are so many components and set ups to take into account. Even now some of the original GPR dampers knobs still touch the crossbars if the rider adjusts them in certain positions. We've gone around the front and back of the damper but it limits the amount of adjustability. The damper crossbars are a continual work in progress. Input is always appreciated!

Today I mounted a set of these bars on my bike. I hope I won't regret it. Looking to make it the long haul. Every little thing helps. They are the Enduro Hi bend. They are still 3mm short of my MSR Freestyle bend bars, but hopefully that won't bug me too much. I've never ridden a set and am going strictly off of the reccommendation of Bob Reinen at Cycle Buy. Fingers crossed. I squeaked when I put down the cash, paying full retail for the most expensive set of bars I've ever seen, when I've never even tried them is a risk for sure.;)

Negligible weight difference. I was told they were heavy, they are not. Chilly White loves them, Kevin Rookstool is using them. Good indication they work. Bob Reinen at Cycle Buy convinced me to try them. If you fill out the registration card, you can replace them at half cost if you ruin them.

Roostafish, thanks for trying Flexx Handlebars. If you have any questions or concerns please email or call us. We are always happy to help and want to be sure your Flexx Handlebars are performing their best through proper set up.

GasGasman, thanks for running Flexx Handlebars and the input on this forum.

Let me know how I can be of help to any of you.

Thank you,
Cole

Do you guys think the enduro bend with standard crossbars will clear a top mount Motosportz damper? The MotoSportz is low profile, would be nice to avoid the higher damper crossbars if possible.

GMP, would it be possible to measure how tall the unit is from the top of the bar? From the picture it looks like it would be really close.

I have a buddy here in NE that's height challenged. Suspension lowered etc. He runs the under bar Motosportz and Flexx bars and after some careful maching work his bars are the same or lower than stock. Little off the bar mounts, little off the Motosportz mount including some dishing for the stem nut and he's there. I'll get some pics and details if you want.

Hey SKidad, I would much appreciate any details or pictures you can provide. If it's easier to email them to me please do so. I'm sure some of the people on this thread would enjoy seeing them as well.

Today I installed my bars, Fastway guards with G2 bar end threaded inserts, ODI grips. I installed the "shims (a.k.a. washers)" under the compression elastomers, adjusted the controls, and am ready to give them a shakedown tomorrow. Starting with the red elastomers for the compression, because I have NO IDEA where to start, and since this is what it came with, that's what I'm doing. It seems to me that a squishy elastomer would bug me. I don't really think people realize the beating your body takes when you ride. It also seems that this is sort of a "bottom out cone" rather than actively cushioning your ride.

Not to rant, but as much as Jeff lectures me about getting older and needing to smooth out my riding style (and I thought I was a smooth, flowing, stand up rider...), I still seem to cram into things way to hard (imagine the sound of my skidplate splatting :D), so I'm hoping these will help with fatigue over long rides, ISDE qualifiers and Enduro, and hopefully Saxony Germany for the ISDE itself!

Well do tell Mike. All I ever heard was great reviews.

Cole,

I don't have the damper yet, just lining up stuff for the new bike when it arrives. I have a Scotts I could rebuild again and use too, but the Motosportz looks lower. The raised crossbars are not a deal breaker, but the straight ones are better. If I had to guess from Kelly's pic, you need the raised crossbar on one side to clear the adjuster lever.

Skidad,

I would not mind a submount like that, as long as the component strengths are not compromised.

Roostafish, that is a great set up. If you have any questions please post them here or email me. With how you have them set up with the shim they will absorb the big hit much better than the little stuff, but still be much more effective than a traditional bar. Unless your shimming them for extra rise I would start with the red/red combo it came with, but since the shims are already installed start with that set up. When pushing on the bar in the garage or riding around slowly you will feel them move, once your at speed you won't. More than likely you will end up with our yellow compression and red rebound elastomer from what I gathered from your post for the type of riding your are doing. The more info you give me on what your experiencing the more I can help you, which goes for all of our great customers. Hope we can help you qualify of Germany...that's an awesome challenge!

GMP, we do have pads for damper crossbars now. Depending on the height you could notch a straight crossbar to work possibly. I'm working on some other solutions as well.

Thanks for letting me talk about Flexx Handlebars guys, I appreciate your interest and feedback!

Cole,

No problem, I'll be getting a set with the damper crossbars so I have damper options. I could always swap to straight parts later if possible. Thanks. Whats the best elastomer setup to start with for nasty rock trails, lots of sharp hits?

The Raised Cross Bar in the front, straight in the back actually seems like a nice setup. A mount could be fabricated for my enduro computer. The computer could sit behind the front raised cross bar. It would offer a little front protection , and the compter would not be the tallest thing on the bike when the bike ends up upside down.
