Gas Gas & Bultaco

I had a '77 bultaco 250 pursang. Here is one photo of me at puyallup raceway in 1977 or so - I was 17 at the time.... (Puyallup, Washington, USA)

Yeah - I had a preston petty "face fender" on at the beginning of the moto too... I posted a photo of me on the starting line in the photo gallery :

I am #63. Bell "magnum" helmet, Hallman leathers, and hi-point pro gp boots and deerskin gloves... I am old school - I still wear hi-points today... Leathers - man those got hot in the summer! :)

I also own a Bultaco. A Model 98 ('73) Alpina 175. It was, quite literally, a rolling basket case when I bought it off eBay four years ago. I stripped it down to the frame and completely rebuilt the engine and suspension. It had a 250 top-end as did most of the 175 Alpina's sold in the U.S. Glad I found that out before ordering the piston and rings.

Rode it at a few Spanish Motorcycle Owners Group (SMOG) East Trail rides, but recently converted it into a "Sherpina" for vintage trials. Fitted it with a model 91 Sherpa T "Slimline" tank and seat, plastic trials fenders, trials bars and lower gearing. Still have the Alpina tank and seat, stainless steel fenders and steel bars. If I ever find some stock lights and speedo (cheap) I may turn it back into an Alpina and build another vintage trialer.

Also thinking about building a Pursang for vintage MX, but after a few "Oh sheet" moments at the SMOG rides (and a broken finger), I'd build a left-side shift/right-side brake Pursang.

Not yet, but I will

I recently picked up an '04 EC200. I've been a motorcyclist for most of my life and put a lot of miles on the road, but never had a dirt bike until I was 51. (54 now). I love vintage bikes and have a '66 Triumph that I restored myself and ride frequently. Don't mind the right shift at all. I'm now determined to own a Bultaco. Don't know which one so I may just have to let the right one find me. I'm curious about vintage racing, both MX and cross country, but I'm not a real speedy rider. I'm looking at an Alpina 200, but really don't know much about them and would love to learn more.

My Dad had a 71' sherpa T when I was riding an sl70 honda.. later I got a 74 125 pursang that handled well and looked beautiful but was a rolling grenade. I seized that thing so many times. The bike was possessed as the maintenance kept on it was exceptional. I have rode a variety of pursangs in the early 70's to around 78'. Beautiful bikes . Too bad the one beautiful bike I had didn't turn out good. I also rode alpinas etc.. I guess maybe that's part of my attraction to gasgas. I liked the earlier gasgas with the nickel plated frames and the stainless steel spokes.. :)

My other spanish girl is a Ossa Super Pioneer, but have always liked the Alpina.

I had a '76 370 Pursang I raced MX on in '76/'77. It had the long Betor shocks with rear lower mount. Constantly blew them out, so I moved the lower mount forward and used shorter Fox shocks. So it ended up like Jeff's '77. My buddy had the '75 and used the same swing arm as the '77 but a different upper mount and short shocks for less travel.

I'd buy a Frontera now....they were always on my 'want' list back when I was riding Ossa

When I was looking for a new bike back in early 75, I went to a small dealer in Lawton OK and he had a brand new 75 Ossa 250 Phantom. He gave me a test ride on it...Oh mercy it had some eye watering power and felt like it weighed less the 200 lbs. I was in the USAF at the time so I went and borrowed like $1400 from the Credit Union and went up to get the Ossa....it had been stolen! I went from there down to Wichita Falls TX and bought a 75 250 Pursang.

Bultaco forum

I have tried repeatedly to register on the Bultacoforum.com, but I can't get it to work. It always tells me that I didn't put the verification letters in correctly, but I have checked over and over. Something is wrong. I also can't find a way to contact an administrator to let them know of my difficulty. Is anyone following this a member of that forum also?

I just registered and the verification letters worked fine for me. I am waiting on my confirmation email.
