Gas Gas meet n greet ride 3!

Do we need any type of permit or license to ride on your trails in Washington? I'm just used to "gas up and go" from my garage in B.C. :)

Any can someone please provide a map and/or the GPS coordinates to the trail head/parking area?

Thanks.

Dale

Hey Dale, No tags or licenses needed if your a Canadian resident. A Canadian drivers license or I.D. card for proof of residence will work.

Spark arresters required on all public lands 365 days a year.

For others coming from out of state, Washington Honors all other states orv tags or plates.

Not very likely to see a DNR presence as severe cutbacks have really hurt our enforcement.

from I-5 Head South toward Tacoma
take I-5 Fwy exit 132 and go west on SR-16
26.8 Turn Left on SR-3 (South)
7.7 turn right on SR -300 ( North shore Rd)
3.6 turn right on Belfair Tahuya Rd
1.7 Turn right on Elfendahl Pass Rd
2.4 turn right to Elfendahl Staging area

mileages are approximate.

One other thing for those Going this route on SR-16 to cross back over the Narrows Bridge there is a 4$ U.S. per vehicle one way toll. If your bringing a motorcycle trailer, I believe that fee goes up 2$ U.S. on top of that to a grand total of 6$.

Alright it is officially February!

Three Saturdays from now were gonna have us a Gas Gas Riders Club Meet "N" Greet ride at Tahuya in Washington state.

So that is Saturday February 20th

I will be eating a big Breakfast before hand and welcome you all to join me.

I'm gonna stop and eat at Jimmy D's Restaurant which is located right in the town of Belfair across HWY 3 from Mc Donald's in Belltowne square, a small shopping center. I plan to arrive at 7:00AM.

If you don't want to stop for breakfast, I plan to meet at the Elfendahl staging area at 8:30AM ready to ride by 9'ish.

Please let me know your plans so I know who to look for at breakfast and or the staging area.

I will be compiling a list of names as we get closer to the day.

It'll be good to meet those I have not met and put a name with a face. I look forward to this day and your responses. :)

Same directions from Oregon?

Just waiting for my forks to get done (serviced), and I should be good to go.

Side note: I run a Pirellli MT-43 trials tire. How would it work up there?

Quite a few of my friends run trials tires at Tahuya and swear by them. In reality even a fairly bald knobbie will work there. If you seen mine you would understand.:D

Here is they back way in to the staging area off of Map quest. It may be faster for you guys coming from the south and will save you a $4 dollar Narrows bridge toll.

2. Merge onto US-101 N via EXIT 104 toward ABERDEEN/PORT ANGELES. 17.3 mi

Thanks for the directions. I was thinking that cutting off at Olympia would be a bit faster.

I am really hoping to make it, but baby due any day now, so we will see!

I wish I could make this ride. I visit Seattle a couple times a year, grandparents live up there. Maybe next time I'll be able to come. Have a good ride!

That means your not to far from Stoney Ford. Very fun place. Got to check it out a couple of years back
Give me a heads up next time your planning the trip up and maybe we can get together for a ride.

I'll be meeting you for breakfast in Belfair at 7am. My wingman Tuxedo Dave will be joining us on his Christini Pumpkin.

This is Jimmy D's location: Here for pancakes!

This is Elfendahl Pass Rd towards the staging area: Feel the butterflies!

Any GPS tracks of the Tahuya trails to satisfy my Nerdiness???
I've only been able to find this so far: rob's big tahuya loop

Cheers,
JP

Excellent I will put you down for 2 for breakfast.

I don't have any GPS. It's all in my brain. I know quite a few guys that have used GPS for our enduros and what not.

Also I noticed on the Jimmy D's link you provided it says your destination will be on the left when in fact it will be on your right from that direction. Across the hwy from the Mc Donald's you can see in the picture. You can kind of see the little strip mall through the trees down below the hwy in the pic provided in your link.

Thanks for the clarification Roscoe! Though I'm sure with growling hunger at 7am, it wouldn't have taken us long to find it! We plan on leaving at 3am in order to meet you for breakfast.
I posted up on our forum that I was attending this ride. Someone I ride with that you may know answered:

"Hey Nerdfrog - Tom & I grew up in Belfair, all our parents still live there. I had the extreme privledge of being able to ride the Tahuya State Forest right out my backdoor from the age of 11 until 18 (the good old days of the 1980's before quads infested the forest and we had over 200 miles of singletrack out there, much of it built by guys on trials bikes). There were many days I'd get up an hour & a half early to go dirt bike riding before school, then come home and ride again after school. It's a well developed sickness for me with a long history.

Tahuya is all lowland stuff, lots of thick underbrush, gravel base, almost no mud but many of the trails hold a ton of water. Make sure your bike is waterproof. The main trail system is pretty blown up, wide & whooped. However, there's still plenty of tight singletrack that will put your Barkbusters to good use. Roscoe knows where to find the good stuff and can go fast in it. There is limited good stuff right out of the staging area, so hopefully he'll get you out of there. Tire selection is unimportant, they all work about the same, new or old, big knobs or trials tire. You'll do a lot of brake sliding into corners on the faster trails, so make sure you've got fresh brake pads. I can typically burn up a set of rear pads in an 80 mile enduro there. Tahuya is a very busy place, currently one of only three public riding areas open year-round in the Puget Sound area. That means lot so city folk out there loosing their minds. The speeds can be pretty high and visibility poor, so be really careful about head-on collisions on the trail.

Anyhow, I've got some decent maps of the area, most are outdated, but a starting point. I'll try to scan and e-mail them to you. Hope you enjoy the Gas Gas-o-rama and the trails of Tahuya Feb. 20 I'll be on a snowboard trip to Idaho.

Ah yes, Lori Taylor.

She is a great Rider and knows Time keeper enduros like no other. She is a friend I see at the races mostly. I have rode enduros on the same minute and trail rode with her a few times.

She is the real deal. One of those women I know that can make many look slow on a Dirt bike.

I really wish I could make this one but unfortunately I just had surgery on my ankle 4 days ago. The good news is I have 5 weeks to freshen up the Gasser for spring. Forks are off to Les and parts order from GoFasters. Have a good time on the ride.

Wow I never knew you were hurt Ken. Heres to a speedy recovery for you.

Isn't it spring already? Sure feels like it!

Here is a list of those who shown interested in this ride. Not sure if everyone on the list is still coming out.

I'm optimistic the weather is gonna cooperate. The last long range looked good. Cross your fingers.

I put a X by those that have confirmed with me. B means meeting for breakfast.

Please take the time to let me know if I can expect you for breakfast or at the staging area, or if you can't make it out now and I will update the list accordingly.

My wife said in passing she may come out and barbecue burgers or hot dogs for us on our lunch stop. I'll see if I can hold her to it. I will let you know.

I also plan on bringing out some of my spare parts for 06 and back Gas Gas machines. I may have something you want. I know I have a brand new never on a bike FMF gnarly I'd like to part with.

Looking forward to a fun day! :)

My girlfriend and I won't be coming unfortunately. One look at the racing plans for 2010 and I realized I gotta be careful with the travel budget.
